Tue Jul 118:27Chris Sale Transferred to 60-Day Injured List
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Chris Sale (ribs) has been transferred to the 60-day injured list on Tuesday. This is a procedural move in order to free up a spot on the 40-man roster for right-hander Hunter Stratton. Sale was placed on the injured list in late June due to a ribcage fracture. The organization is hopeful Sale is able to pitch again this season, but this move holds Sale out until August 20. For now, Didier Fuentes will stick in the rotation, but that could change. The hope is that fantasy managers will still be able to get something out of Sale before the season is over.

Mon Jun 2318:42Chris Sale Has No Timetable to Return
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Chris Sale (ribs) is expected to pitch again this season, according to manager Brian Snitker. Sale was placed on the 15-day injured list on Saturday after suffering a ribcage fracture on Wednesday. There is no timetable for Sale's return as the team wants to wait and see how the injury heals. This is a tough spot for fantasy managers given the uncertainty of his return. Sale figures to miss more than the 15-day minimum. Fantasy managers should go ahead and hold Sale on their IL until the team offers more information.

Sat Jun 2114:02Chris Sale Placed on 15-Day Injured List
The Atlanta Braves have placed ace Chris Sale (rib cage) on the 15-day injured list with a fractured left rib cage, retroactive to June 19, Grant McAuley of 92.9 The Game reports. Atlanta recalled left-hander Austin Cox from Triple-A Gwinnett to take Sale's roster spot. Sale suffered the injury in the ninth inning on a diving play against the New York Mets on Wednesday. The reigning National League Cy Young was dominant over 8 2/3 scoreless innings that night. It was the latest excellent outing in a season full of them for Sale, who has once again been among the premier starters in the sport. Across 89 1/3 innings, the 36-year-old lefty has pitched to a 2.52 ERA with 114 strikeouts against 26 walks. There's no replacing that type of production. Sale will now miss at least two weeks, which is a major blow for both the Braves and fantasy managers.

Wed Jun 1823:06Chris Sale Mows Down Mets in Victory
Atlanta Braves ace Chris Sale (5-4) delivered a spectacular performance against the New York Mets on Wednesday to rack up his fifth win of the season. The reigning National League Cy Young winner fell just one out short of a complete-game shutout, firing 8 2/3 scoreless, five-hit innings with seven strikeouts and one walk. The 36-year-old lefty exited a 116-pitch outing after allowing an infield single to Brandon Nimmo. Sale has now tallied six straight quality starts, and he hasn't given up more than two earned runs in a game since April 13. Overall, Sale has pitched to a stellar 2.52 ERA with 114 strikeouts and 26 walks in 89 1/3 innings. He's scheduled to get the ball Monday in a rematch against the Mets.

Mon Jun 1613:04Chris Sale to Start on Wednesday
Atlanta Braves left-hander Chris Sale will make his next start this Wednesday in New York against the division-rival New York Mets, according to The Athletic's David O'Brien. It opens up Sale to be able to start again against the Mets next week. Sale was originally scheduled to make his second start of last week in Sunday's series finale in an excellent matchup against the Colorado Rockies, but instead he's been pushed to Wednesday. The 36-year-old reigning National League Cy Young will get a much tougher matchup against the Mets in his next two starts, but Sale remains a must-start in fantasy leagues after racking up a season-high 11 strikeouts in seven innings last Monday against the Milwaukee Brewers. Sale hasn't allowed more than two earned runs in an outing since April 13 against the Tampa Bay Rays and now holds a 2.79 ERA with 107 K's and 25 walks in 80 2/3 innings in 2025.

Sat Jun 1421:14Chris Sale Won't Pitch on Sunday
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Chris Sale won't make his scheduled start against the Colorado Rockies on Sunday. Instead, Sale is expected to start in one of the games during the upcoming series against the New York Mets. It doesn't sound like Sale is dealing with an injury. This looks like the Braves saving Sale for a tougher divisional matchup and letting someone else pitch against the worst team in baseball. The Braves will go with right-hander Grant Holmes for Sunday's contest with the Rockies. Fantasy managers who have these pitchers rostered should adjust their lineups accordingly.

Tue Jun 1000:08Chris Sale Fans Season-High 11 In Monday's Win
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Chris Sale was dialed in for Monday's 7-1 win over the Brewers. Sale pitched seven innings, allowing one run on five hits and two walks with a season-high 11 strikeouts. The 36-year-old has shown no signs of slowing down after earning the National League Cy Young Award last season. He has been excellent in his first two seasons with the Braves after an up-and-down tenure with the Red Sox. Sale is now 4-4 with a 2.79 ERA, a 1.21 WHIP, and an 11.94 K/9 rate in 14 starts and 80 2/3 IP. His next start will be an excellent matchup against the Rockies at home.

Wed Jun 423:31Chris Sale Fans 10 in Loss to Diamondbacks
Atlanta Braves left-hander Chris Sale (3-4) took his fourth loss of the season in a 2-1 defeat against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday. Sale was outstanding despite a lack of run support, tossing six innings of three-hit, one-run ball with 10 strikeouts and four walks. The reigning National League Cy Young winner owned a 6.00-plus ERA for a large chunk of April, but that number has shrunk below 3.00 with a run of dominance over the past month-plus. Sale has now racked up four straight quality starts. Over that span, Sale has combined for 26 innings, allowed three runs on 14 hits, and amassed 32 strikeouts against 10 walks. His season ERA sits at 2.93 with 96 punchouts and 23 walks through 73 2/3 frames. The 36-year-old ace will go on the road to challenge the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday.

Thu May 2921:55Chris Sale Tosses Six Shutout Innings
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Chris Sale was excellent in Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader, striking out eight over six scoreless innings in a 9-3 win over the Phillies. He allowed two hits and three walks. After a bit of a rocky start to the season, the veteran hasn't allowed more than two runs in a start since April 13, which is a span of eight straight outings. He hasn't lost a step since winning the National League Cy Young Award last season, posting a 3.06 ERA with 86 strikeouts in 67 innings in 2025. He'll look to keep things rolling in his next start, which is scheduled to be against the Diamondbacks.

Mon May 2623:29Chris Sale Turning Things Around
Atlanta Braves left-hander Chris Sale had an 0-2 record with a 6.17 ERA, 36 hits allowed (four homers) and nine walks in 28 1/3 innings in his first six starts. But since then, the 36-year-old veteran southpaw has turned things around, posting a 1.64 ERA with 46 strikeouts, nine walks and 32 hits allowed (three homers) in 38 1/3 innings over six starts. He's worked at least 6 2/3 innings in four of his last five starts, including seven innings in each of his last two times out. Sale said he was watching plenty of video and pitching-motion skeletal biomechanics during his rough patch early on to try and figure out what he needed to tweak. He mentioned that his arm angle had dropped a little bit lower than usual, changing the spin on some of his pitches. Sale's next start will come this week on the road against the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies, but he'll be a must-start in the tough matchup.

Fri May 1623:08Chris Sale Throws Seven Dominant Innings in Friday's Win
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Chris Sale (2-3) allowed one run on five hits and two walks over seven innings in Friday's 4-2 win against the Boston Red Sox. He struck out eight to earn his second win of the season. Sale outlasted fellow left-handed ace Garrett Crochet in a classic pitcher's duel. The 36-year-old generated 15 swings-and-misses in this one as he is putting together a strong month of May after a rocky start to the season. After posting a 4.84 ERA in March and April, Sale looks to return to his usual self with a 1.40 ERA and 26:6 K:BB in May. Sale will look to keep it rolling in his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road on Thursday against the Washington Nationals.

Mon May 1209:44Chris Sale Fans Eight In A No-Decision Sunday Against Pirates
Atlanta Braves left-hander Chris Sale (1-3) was cruising through the Pittsburgh Pirates' offense until he gave up three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. He then proceeded to go out for the sixth inning and was pulled after getting two outs and left the game down 3-0. The Braves stormed back in the top of the eighth inning with three runs to get Sale off the hook for his fourth loss of the season. The Braves would eventually fall 4-3. Sale struck out eight batters, allowed two walks, eight hits, and two earned runs in his five 5 2/3 innings of work. Sale has lowered his season ERA to 3.97 after a tough start to the 2025 campaign. Sale has been racking up the strikeouts at an elite clip (12.08 K/9), and remains a must-start in all formats. Next is a trip to Fenway to take on the Boston Red Sox on Friday night.

Wed May 700:27Chris Sale Fans 10 In Tough No-Decision Tuesday
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Chris Sale strung together his third consecutive solid start in Tuesday's 2-1 extra-inning win over the Reds. Sale pitched 6 2/3 shutout innings, allowing five hits and two walks with 10 strikeouts. Unfortunately, the Braves weren't able to get on the board until the ninth inning, sticking him with a no-decision. The 2024 National League Cy Young Award winner had a slow start to the season but has picked things up lately, including back-to-back 10-strikeout performances. He is now 1-3 with a 4.07 ERA, a 1.36 WHIP, and a 12.00 K/9 rate in eight starts and 42 IP. He should have a good chance to keep things rolling in his next start, which will be a great matchup at the Pirates.

Thu May 100:22Chris Sale Strikes Out 10
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Chris Sale was stuck with a tough-luck loss on Wednesday in a 2-1 loss to the Rockies. He allowed two runs on five hits and no walks with 10 strikeouts over seven innings. This was the reigning Cy Young champ's best start of the season, as it was his first double-digit strikeout performance and his first outing of more than five innings. He had a rough April overall with his ERA currently sitting at 4.84, but he still has maintained an elite 29% strikeout rate and remains an ace both in real life and in fantasy.

Mon Apr 1415:19Chris Sale Frustrated With Poor Start
Atlanta Braves left-hander Chris Sale has lasted five or fewer innings and allowed three or more earned runs in each of his four starts this year, including 4 2/3 and 4 1/3 innings in his past two. Last year, he had only two starts of less than five innings. Sale has surrendered 15 hits and nine runs (eight earned) in nine innings in his last two starts. "I just hate sucking, and I'm just bad. Simple," Sale said. His average fastball velocity was 96.2 mph in his start on Sunday against the Rays -- up 3 mph from his previous season average. The reigning National League Cy Young has allowed at least three runs in each of his four starts in 2025 after giving up more than two earned runs in only three of 29 starts a year ago. The fact that Sale is healthy has made the poor start more frustrating, but it should also ease the minds of fantasy managers that he'll turn it around sooner than later.

Mon Mar 1709:22Chris Sale Gets Opening Day Start For The Atlanta Braves
Atlanta Braves left-hander Chris Sale has been assigned the Opening Day start for the Braves to kick off the 2025 season. Sale, the 2024 NL Cy Young Award winner, looks to continue his dominance in 2025 for the Braves and will start the season on the road versus the San Diego Padres on Thursday, March 27. The Padres have a solid lineup, including superstars Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr. Regardless, Sale is one of the most dominant starters in the game, and fantasy managers should start him confidently next Thursday. During the 2024 season, Sale went 18-3 with an 11.4 K/9, 2.38 ERA, a 6.4 WAR, and a 2.09 FIP. Look for him to continue to rack up the wins and strikeouts behind one of the most potent lineups in baseball.

Wed Feb 1912:25Chris Sale To Start Grapefruit League Opener On Saturday
The Athletic's David O'Brien reports that Atlanta Braves left-hander Chris Sale will start this year's Grapefruit League opener on Saturday against the Minnesota Twins. Barring an unexpected development, Sale, last year's National League Cy Young winner, will also start the regular-season opener on March 27 at the San Diego Padres. Sale was amazing in his first year in Atlanta in 2024, winning the pitching Triple Crown by leading the league in wins (18), ERA (majors-best 2.38) and strikeouts (225 in 177 2/3 innings). His 29 starts were his most since 2017 and he was able to stay healthy until the last week of the season, when back spasms caused him to miss his final start and a wild-card loss to the Padres in the playoffs. The good news is his spasms subsided and he had a normal offseason. Sale is a top-five fantasy starter in 2025, albeit with plenty of injury risk.

Fri Nov 22 202412:14Chris Sale To Have Normal Offseason
Atlanta Braves left-hander Chris Sale (back), who was named the 2024 National League Cy Young winner on Wednesday, won't have his offseason hampered at all by the back spasms that he dealt with at the tail end of the season. Sale was unable to take his final turn of the regular season against the division-rival New York Mets in the regular season and then also wasn't available for the Braves in the wild-card series against the San Diego Padres. However, had Atlanta advanced to the NL Division Series, he would have started Game 3 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. It's great news for the 35-year-old southpaw as he looks for an encore in 2025 with the Braves. He posted a 2.38 ERA and 1.01 WHIP with 225 K's and only 39 walks in 177 2/3 innings in his first year in Atlanta. Sale obviously has ace upside, but there's also high bust potential because of his lengthy injury history.

Wed Nov 20 202423:10Chris Sale Wins National League Cy Young Award
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Chris Sale won the NL Cy Young Award on Wednesday, the first time the 35-year-old has won the award in his 15-year career, despite finishing in the top five in six consecutive seasons from 2013-18. The lefty went 18-3 while posting a 2.38 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and a 26.5% K-BB% while earning a trip to the All-Star game for the eighth time. The veteran also won his first career Gold Glove award in 2024. It looks like the Braves won this trade with the Red Sox, as Vaughn Grissom was sent to the Red Sox in exchange for Sale, and Grissom played just 31 games this season due to injury, posting just a .190/.246/.219. Hopefully Sale's injury issues are behind him and he can continue to pitch a few more years with this type of effectiveness before any age-related decline kicks in. The southpaw was quite the value in fantasy drafts in 2024, but he will cost much more in 2025.

Fri Oct 4 202412:36Chris Sale Feels Great After Throwing Side Session
Atlanta Braves left-hander Chris Sale (back) threw a side session on Friday and felt great. President of baseball operations Alex Anthopoulos told Sale earlier this week that he would have been on the roster for the National League Division Series had the Braves advanced past the San Diego Padres in the Wild-Card Series. Sale had to be scratched from Game 2 of Monday's divisional doubleheader against the New York Mets and then was unavailable to pitch in either of the two games of the Wild-Card Series in San Diego on Tuesday and Wednesday. It was a disappointing end of the season for the 35-year-old veteran, who is the front-runner to win the National League Cy Young this year after going 18-3 with a 2.38 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 225 strikeouts in 177 2/3 innings over his 29 starts in his first year with the Braves. The eight-time All-Star obviously still has lots of upside, but he's also a big injury risk at his age.
