Thu Jul 314:31Rockies Recall Zach Agnos on Thursday
The Colorado Rockies announced on Thursday that they recalled rookie right-handed reliever Zach Agnos from Triple-A Albuquerque and optioned right-hander Angel Chivilli to Albuquerque in a corresponding move. Although it's hard to bank on anything from the back end of the worst team in baseball's bullpen, the return of Agnos is notable for fantasy managers scrounging for saves and high-leverage arms that could have an impact in the second half. The 24-year-old former 10th-rounder in 2022 out of East Carolina had a short stint as the Rockies' closer earlier this year and picked up his first four saves, but he also struggled to an 0-3 record, 5.48 ERA and 1.31 WHIP with 12 strikeouts and nine free passes in 21 1/3 innings pitched in 20 appearances. As things currently stand, Seth Halvorsen is the primary option for saves for the last-place Rockies.

Sun Jun 1511:45Zach Agnos Optioned to Triple-A
The Colorado Rockies have optioned right-handed pitching prospect Zach Agnos to Triple-A. In a corresponding move, the Rockies activated left-handed pitcher Austin Gomber (shoulder) from the 60-day injured list. Agnos made his MLB debut earlier this season and was quickly deployed in a high-leverage role. Through his first 8 2/3 innings of work, the No. 24-ranked prospect in the system posted a 3.2 ERA with a 0.92 WHIP. During this stretch, he tallied two saves and one hold. However, over his last 3 1/3 innings, Agnos has struggled, allowing six hits and 10 earned runs. Given his recent slump, the Rockies will opt for him to continue his development with Triple-A. While he heads back to the minor leagues, fantasy managers should expect Seth Halvorsen and Tyler Kinley to operate as the go-to options in save situations.

Tue Jun 313:51Zach Agnos Placed on Bereavement List
The Colorado Rockies announced on Tuesday that they placed rookie right-handed reliever Zach Agnos on the bereavement list and recalled right-hander Angel Chivilli from Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding move. Agnos will be away from the team for at least a couple days and probably won't rejoin the club until Friday for their series opener at Coors Field against the New York Mets. The 24-year-old has quickly earned the trust of the coaching staff in high-leverage situations in his first year in the big leagues. Agnos picked up his fourth save of the season in the win on Monday over the Miami Marlins and has become one of Colorado's best bets for saves chances in the unlikely event that they pop up (the Rockies have just 10 wins all season). With Agnos away for a few days, Seth Halvorsen or Jake Bird could be called upon if the Rockies have another save situation between now and Friday.

Tue Jun 313:11Zach Agnos Snags Fourth Save
Colorado Rockies reliever Zach Agnos picked up his fourth save of the season in Monday's 6-4 road victory against the Miami Marlins. The Virginia native fired 7-of-11 pitches for strikes, yielding just one hit (single). Agnos let up a home run in his appearance against the New York Mets on Sunday, so it was nice to see him bounce back with a scoreless outing. He's been perfect thus far, converting all four of his save chances. Unfortunately, he doesn't project to be afforded many opportunities in 2025 with Colorado on a historically dreadful pace. Still, the 24-year-old has been excellent -- sporting a 1.50 ERA and 0.83 WHIP over 16 appearances (18 innings). Agnos hasn't quite found a groove strikeout-wise (11.9%), but his splitter (38.3%) and sweeper (37.5%) are garnering whiffs at a strong rate.

Sat May 2406:43Zach Agnos Tallies Save No. 3
Colorado Rockies right-handed pitching prospect Zach Agnos earned his third save of his major league career during their 3-2 victory over the New York Yankees on Friday evening. Agnos allowed one walk, but did not allow a hit or a run. He did not tally a strikeout. Since earning the promotion to the majors, Agnos has been viewed as the top ninth-inning option in Colorado. Through his first 14 innings of work in the big leagues, Agnos has tallied three saves, two holds, and held a 1.29 ERA with a 0.93 WHIP. Under the hood, the 24-year-old has generated a 3.26 xERA and a .267 xBA, which suggests he will likely see some regression throughout the summer. He remains a target for saves in deeper 14+ team formats, but pitching on the Rockies will not provide him with many consistent save opportunities.

Fri May 212:07Zach Agnos Earns Second Save
Colorado Rockies pitching prospect Zach Agnos tallied his second career save on Thursday evening during their victory over the San Francisco Giants. Agnos pitched a clean frame. He did not allow a hit, but he also did not tally a punchout. This was his second-straight game tallying a save. Since making his MLB debut on April 20, Agnos has logged seven 1/3 innings of work without allowing a run. He has tallied just one punchout but has been trusted in high-leverage situations. Given his recent usage, fantasy managers should view the East Carolina product as the favorite for saves in Colorado for the time being. Earlier this season, in Triple-A, Agnos held a 2.25 ERA across eight innings. While he does not carry high strikeout upside, he is worth a look in deeper formats, as he could finish the season with double-digit saves.

Wed Apr 3021:12Zach Agnos Earns First Career Save
Colorado Rockies relief pitcher Zach Agnos was called upon to hold a one-run lead against the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday. The right-hander recently earned his promotion to the majors after pitching well in Triple-A. Agnos worked a scoreless ninth inning and retired three of the four batters he faced to earn his first career save. Early in the season, Seth Halvorsen seemed to be the favorite for saves, but possibly Agnos will get a chance now. Honestly, it doesn't really matter who pitches in the ninth with how bad this team has been playing early in the year. The Rockies have five wins so far, which means none of their relievers should be considered viable options for saves.

Sun Apr 2014:44Zach Agnos Promoted To Major Leagues
The Colorado Rockies have promoted right-handed pitching prospect Zach Agnos to the major leagues. In a corresponding move, the Rockies have placed right-handed pitcher Victor Vodnik (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list. Agnos was in the mix to make the roster out of camp, but fell short in the competition. However, the Eastern Carolina product is being rewarded with an early promotion. Earlier this season, Agnos logged his first eight innings with Triple-A and held a strong 2.25 ERA with a 0.75 WHIP. During this brief stretch, he struck out 10 batters and tallied two saves. Last summer, he spent time with High-A and Double-A and logged 52 1/3 innings to the tune of a 1.38 ERA and a 0.78 WHIP. During this stint, he tallied 63 punchouts and added 17 saves. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on his status as he could compete for save opportunities over Seth Halvorsen.

Thu Mar 2012:48Zach Agnos Likely To Begin In The Minors
Colorado Rockies shortstop-turned-reliever Zach Agnos has had a great spring training with a 3.86 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, seven strikeouts and only one walk in 9 1/3 Cactus League innings, but The Denver Post's Patrick Saunders thinks there's a good chance he'll begin the year in the minors. The Rockies' coaching staff loves Agnos' arsenal and maturity, but the team already has decent relief depth at the major-league level in Seth Halvorsen, Victor Vodnik, Angel Chivilli, Tyler Kinley and Jimmy Herget. Many of their relievers also still have minor-league options remaining, giving the Rockies the option to mix and match with their bullpen. The 24-year-old Agnos is ranked as the team's No. 28 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, after saving 44 games in the minors the last two years. If he continues to look good on the farm, he could be up in the big leagues soon and compete for saves sooner than later.
