Wed May 14 | 12:25 | Chase Petty To Make Another Start On Saturday |
Cincinnati Reds rookie right-hander Chase Petty is set to make another start this Saturday at home against the visiting Cleveland Guardians. Petty was called up from Triple-A Louisville last weekend and made his second career MLB start on Sunday against the Houston Astros on the road, allowing four earned runs on six hits (one homer) while walking six and striking out four in just three innings for his second loss. While the matchup against the Guardians isn't terrible, it will come at a hitter-friendly ballpark in Cincy, and fantasy managers looking for a streamer probably won't be ecstatic to use an inexperienced hurler that hasn't fared well in his first two MLB starts. The 22-year-old former first-rounder has allowed 13 earned runs on 13 hits (three homers) while walking eight and striking out seven in 5 1/3 innings in his first two starts against St. Louis and Houston. |

Fri May 9 | 17:18 | Reds Calling Up Chase Petty |
With right-hander Hunter Greene (groin) going on the 15-day injured list on Friday, the Cincinnati Reds are recalling right-handed pitching prospect Chase Petty from Triple-A Louisville, according to The Cincinnati Enquirer's Charlie Goldsmith. Petty will return to the big leagues and fill in for Greene in Cincy's starting rotation for a few turns. The 22-year-old didn't fare so well in his big-league debut on April 30 in a start against the St. Louis Cardinals, surrendering nine earned runs on seven hits (two homers) while walking two and striking out three in 2 1/3 innings. The former first-rounder and No. 7-ranked Reds prospect, per MLB Pipeline, has a 2.79 ERA and 1.14 WHIP with 35 K's and 12 walks in six starts for Louisville. Petty will get a slightly longer look this time and has plenty of strikeout upside as primarily a fastball, slider and cutter pitcher. |

Wed May 7 | 11:34 | Chase Petty Shines In Return To Triple-A |
Cincinnati Reds right-handed pitching prospect Chase Petty tossed six no-hit innings on Tuesday evening during his start against Triple-A Omaha. He struck out eight batters and served up three free passes. Petty was promoted last week to make his MLB debut, but stumbled in his first outing in the majors as he allowed seven hits and nine runs across two 1/3 innings of work. However, the No. 6-ranked prospect in the Cincinnati system was able to return to form at Triple-A. Over his last 25 2/3 innings of work at Triple-A, Petty has performed at an elite level, posting a stellar 1.05 ERA with a 0.97 WHIP. During this stretch, he struck out 31 batters and allowed just 10 free passes. Given his impressive production at Triple-A, Petty should be in the mix to return to the majors later this summer. |

Thu May 1 | 07:26 | Chase Petty Stumbles In MLB Debut |
Cincinnati Reds pitching prospect Chase Petty stumbled in his MLB debut on Wednesday evening. Petty was promoted to start the second half of a double-header against the St. Louis Cardinals. However, his MLB debut lasted just two 1/3 innings as he allowed seven hits and nine earned runs. He struck out three batters and served up two walks. He allowed a three-run shot to St. Louis first baseman Willson Contreras in the opening frame. Later in the second, he would allow a second home run to Pedro Pages and a two-run double by Jordan Walker, which broke the game open. Despite his rough start, Petty was enjoying solid production at Triple-A Louisville as he logged 23 innings to the tune of a 3.22 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP. Fantasy managers should expect Petty to return to the minor leagues. |

Wed Apr 30 | 11:57 | Chase Petty Joins MLB Roster Prior To Wednesday's Start |
The Cincinnati Reds have officially promoted right-handed pitching prospect Chase Petty to the MLB roster ahead of his MLB debut on Wednesday evening against the St. Louis Cardinals. Petty is slated to start the second half of Wednesday's doubleheader. The 22-year-old has enjoyed a strong start to the Triple-A campaign and is being rewarded with an early MLB debut. Through his first 23 innings at Triple-A Louisville, Petty has held a 3.52 ERA with a 1.30 WHIP. He has struck out 27 batters and served up just nine free passes. In his last start, Petty tossed six shutout innings and tallied seven punchouts against the Iowa Cubs. He is worth a look in deeper NL-only formats facing the St. Louis Cardinals. However, he will likely be optioned back to Triple-A after this start and should not be targeted in shallow formats. |

Tue Apr 29 | 23:33 | Chase Petty Expected To Make Major League Debut On Wednesday |
Cincinnati Reds pitching prospect Chase Petty is expected to be called up for a spot start in Wednesday's doubleheader against the Cardinals. The Reds' sixth-ranked prospect has been at Triple-A Louisville this season, and since his first start of the season in which he allowed six earned runs, the righty has a 1.37 ERA, a 1.12 WHIP, and a 19.5 percent K-BB% (7:23 BB:K) over 19 2/3 IP (four starts). The 22-year-old is not expected to remain in the majors after the start, but should get another shot later this season. Armed with a fastball that can touch triple-digits, the 6-foot-1 hurler has a chance to rack up a few strikeouts and make himself a viable DFS play, however, the Cardinals own the 10th-best strikeouts per game average in the majors, so it is not a highly favorable spot and he's best left to the waiver wire in most season-long fantasy leagues. |

Thu Apr 24 | 10:37 | Chase Petty Strikes Out Seven On Wednesday |
Cincinnati Reds pitching prospect Chase Petty struck out seven batters across six shutout innings on Wednesday evening. Petty allowed just one hit and two free passes. Since allowing six runs in his season debut, Petty has been very effective with Triple-A Louisville. Over his last 19 2/3 innings (four outings), Petty has posted a strong 1.37 ERA with a 1.12 WHIP. During this stretch, the former 26th overall pick has served up just seven walks and struck out 23 batters. Last season, the No. 6-ranked prospect in the system spent most of his time with Double-A before earning a brief taste of Triple-A. During his first look at the top level of the minor leagues, the right-hander logged 10 innings of two-run ball. Given his current production, Petty should be in the mix to make his MLB debut later this season. |
