Wed Jul 200:10Michael McGreevy Throws Six Shutout Innings on Tuesday
St. Louis Cardinals pitching prospect Michael McGreevy allowed only two hits while striking out five in six scoreless innings as he picked up the win on Tuesday against Triple-A Nashville. McGreevy picked up his eighth win of the season which is tied for the most among pitchers in Triple-A. The 24-year-old was in total control in this outing, throwing 55 of 81 pitches for strikes while also generating 12 whiffs on 41 swings. The right-hander has been dominant all season at Triple-A with a 2.28 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and a 69:12 K:BB in 67 innings. He has made a handful of starts at the major league level and has been respectable, owning a 3.37 FIP over 21.1 innings. There isn't a clear spot for him in the rotation as of now, but that can always change. He would be a solid deep league or NL-only add when he returns to the majors.

Wed Jun 2517:25Michael McGreevy Heading Back to the Minors
The St. Louis Cardinals announced on Wednesday that they optioned right-hander Michael McGreevy to Triple-A Memphis and recalled right-hander Matt Svanson from Memphis in a corresponding move. McGreevy, the team's No. 9 prospect per MLB Pipeline, has been used as a spot starter for the Cardinals in recent weeks. The 24-year-old had his worst start of the year in Tuesday's win over the Chicago Cubs, allowing five earned runs on seven hits (one homer) while walking one and striking out only one in a no-decision in 4 2/3 innings of work. The 6-foot-4, 220-pounder will go back to the farm to continue his development, but he figures to be back in the big leagues in the second half of 2025 for more spot starts or to enter the rotation permanently if injuries occur. McGreevy doesn't have overpowering stuff and relies on control and location to succeed, limiting his fantasy upside.

Mon Jun 2318:34Michael McGreevy Named Tuesday's Starter
St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Michael McGreevy will be called up to take the ball versus the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday, according to manager Oliver Marmol. McGreevy has earned himself an extended look after tossing five innings, allowing one earned run, and striking out five batters in a start against the Chicago White Sox. This is going to be a much more difficult matchup for McGreevy against a tough Cubs lineup. He has a 2.70 ERA, 0.84 WHIP, and 15/2 K/BB ratio across three starts this season. Despite recent success, McGreevy remains a risky streaming choice against the Cubs.

Fri Jun 2016:26Michael McGreevy Sent to Triple-A
The St. Louis Cardinals have optioned right-handed pitcher Michael McGreevy to Triple-A Memphis prior to Friday's contest against the Cincinnati Reds. McGreevy was promoted to the major leagues to start the second half of Thursday's doubleheader against the Chicago White Sox. In this outing, the No. 10-ranked prospect in the system tossed five innings of one-run ball with five strikeouts. He allowed just three hits and one walk. Through 16 2/3 innings in the majors this season (three starts), McGreevy has held his own in St. Louis, posting a 2.70 ERA with a stellar 0.84 WHIP. McGreevy made his MLB debut last summer and showed similar success, posting a 1.96 ERA with a 0.78 WHIP across 23 innings. Given his production in the majors, McGreevy should be in the mix to return to the majors later this season.

Wed Jun 1821:22Michael McGreevy to Start Game 2 on Thursday
St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Michael McGreevy will start Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Chicago White Sox, reports Derrick Goold of The St. Louis Dispatch. Erick Fedde will man the bump for Game 1. McGreevy will be added to the roster as the 27th man for the day, so this is likely to be just a spot start for the 24-year-old. He's made two other spot starts this year, with the first going much better than the second. He most recently allowed four runs on eight hits over six innings on June 8 but tossed 5 scoreless frames against the Mets on May 4. McGreevy will get to face a weak White Sox lineup, so he could be worth streaming in deep fantasy leagues if you're in a pinch.

Tue Jun 1016:05Michael McGreevy Could Make Another Spot Start This Month
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Daniel Guerrero writes that St. Louis Cardinals right-handed pitching prospect Michael McGreevy could come back up to the big leagues to make another spot start later this month. McGreevy came up to make his first start of the year on Sunday against the Los Angeles Dodgers and took the loss after allowing four earned runs on eight hits while walking none and striking out five in six innings. All things considered, it wasn't a bad showing for the 24-year-old, who is considered the team's No. 10 prospect per MLB Pipeline. The former 18th overall pick in 2021 out of Santa Barbara has held his own with a 3.09 ERA and 0.86 WHIP with 10 strikeouts in his two outings (11 2/3 innings) this year after making his MLB debut in 2024. McGreevy's stuff isn't anything special, but he's a ground-ball artist with exceptional control.

Mon Jun 915:23Michael McGreevy Sent Back Down
The St. Louis Cardinals announced on Monday that they sent right-handed pitching prospect Michael McGreevy and right-hander Matt Svanson to Triple-A Memphis and recalled right-handers Riley O'Brien and Chris Roycroft from Memphis in corresponding moves. McGreevy, the club's No. 10 prospect per MLB Pipeline, will head back to the minors for more seasoning after making a spot start in Sunday's series finale against the Los Angeles Dodgers in what was just his fourth MLB start after debuting last year. The 24-year-old took the loss against the defending World Series champions and allowed four runs on eight hits while walking none and striking out five in six innings of work. McGreevy has the makings of a solid big-league starter eventually and has held his own in his first six big-league outings (six starts), posting a 2.34 ERA and 0.81 WHIP with 28 K's and only three walks in 34 2/3 frames.

Sat Jun 713:40Michael McGreevy Slated to Start on Sunday
St. Louis Cardinals right-handed pitching prospect Michael McGreevy is expected to be promoted from Triple-A Memphis to start Sunday's contest against the Los Angeles Dodgers. McGreevy was given a spot start earlier this season and performed well, logging 5 2/3 shutout innings against the New York Mets. In this outing, he struck out five batters and allowed just one hit and one walk. Last summer, McGreevy made his MLB debut and found success as well, posting a 1.96 ERA and a stellar 0.78 WHIP across 23 frames. During this stint, he struck out 18 batters. Through 339 1/3 career innings at the Triple-A level, McGreevy has posted a 4.00 ERA with a 1.36 WHIP. Even though he has found success in the big leagues, he is best to fade in DFS on Sunday while facing a potent Dodgers lineup.

Tue Jun 315:04Michael McGreevy Could Be Used as Spot Starter This Month
St. Louis Cardinals pitching prospect Michael McGreevy could be in line for more work with the big league club as the calendar turns to June. The Cardinals don't have an off day until June 16, then they do not see another off day until July 3, which could put stress on the starting rotation and bullpen. The team could still use veteran Steven Matz as a spot starter, as that's what he's been for most of his career, but McGreevy has had success in the majors already and could be strategically deployed to give their regular five-man rotation the necessary rest in between starts. McGreevy debuted in 2024, making four appearances (three starts) for the Cards, and has made one start already in 2025. All in all, the Cardinals' 10th-ranked prospect is 4-0 with a 1.57 ERA, 0.70 WHIP, and an 18.9 percent K-BB% thanks to a 23:3 K:BB in 28 2/3 IP. Given that success, the former first-round draft pick would be a viable DFS or streaming option against most teams were he to get recalled.

Thu May 2900:05Michael McGreevy Strikes Out Nine in Six Strong Innings
St. Louis Cardinals pitching prospect Michael McGreevy picked up the win Wednesday, allowing a run on six hits and a walk across six innings against Triple-A Durham. He struck out nine. McGreevy was efficient in this outing, firing 60 of his 94 pitches for strikes. The 24-year-old generated 16 swings and misses and is in the midst of a strong month of May. Since returning to Triple-A after a spot start with the big league club on May 4, McGreevy has only allowed four runs in 22 innings. McGreevy could be recalled during the summer to upgrade one of the back-end rotation spots. With a good defense and a pitcher-friendly home ballpark, he would be worth a speculative add.

Tue May 613:24Michael McGreevy Sent Back To Triple-A
The St. Louis Cardinals have optioned right-handed pitching prospect Michael McGreevy back to Triple-A Memphis. In a corresponding move, the Cardinals promoted right-handed pitcher Gordon Graceffo. McGreevy was promoted prior to Sunday's doubleheader against the New York Mets. He was deployed in a long relief role in Game 2 and looked quite sharp as he logged five 2/3 innings of one-hit ball. He served up just one walk and struck out five. McGreevy also performed well during his first taste of the major leagues in 2024, when he posted a 1.96 ERA and a 0.78 WHIP across 23 innings. During this stretch, he struck out 18 batters and held a near-perfect 2.3 percent walk rate. Fantasy managers should expect the No. 11-ranked prospect in the system to return to the majors later this summer.

He is worth closely monitoring in deeper formats as he will be worth picking up when he is given the call.

Mon Mar 2409:04Michael McGreevy Optioned To Triple-A
St. Louis Cardinals pitching prospect Michael McGreevy was optioned to Triple-A Memphis. McGreevy was competing for a spot in the starting rotation but ultimately fell short. During camp, McGreevy was one of St. Louis' best pitchers as he held a stellar 1.08 ERA with a 0.60 WHIP across 16 2/3 innings. McGreevy tallied 12 punchouts during this stint and did not serve up a free pass. Last summer, the Santa Barbara product made his MLB debut and performed quite well, as he posted a 1.96 ERA with a 0.78 WHIP across 23 frames. Fri Mar 2118:51Michael McGreevy Shines On Friday
St. Louis Cardinals pitching prospect Michael McGreevy tossed five shutout frames on Friday afternoon against the New York Mets. McGreevy allowed just one hit and tallied four punchouts. This outing continued McGreevy's impressive camp. Through 16 2/3 innings, the right-hander has posted a stellar 1.08 ERA with a 0.60 WHIP. McGreevy has tallied 12 punchouts and has not served up a free pass. The UC Santa Barbara product is competing for a spot in the rotation, and given his production in camp, he continues to improve his chances. Last week, there were reports that the Cardinals were interested in potentially using a six-man rotation at the start of the season, which would almost guarantee McGreevy a starting role. Last season, the 24-year-old made his MLB debut and tossed 23 innings with a strong 1.96 ERA with a 0.78 WHIP. If he were to make the starting rotation, he would have value in deeper formats.

Tue Mar 1808:04Michael McGreevy Could Make Starting Rotation
St. Louis Cardinals starting pitching prospect Michael McGreevy could make the starting rotation if the Cardinals opt to use a six-man rotation. John Denton of MLB.com noted that the young right-hander could operate as a starter and swingman. The 24-year-old made his MLB debut last summer and performed quite well. Through 23 innings, McGreevy posted a 1.96 ERA with a strong 0.78 WHIP. During spring training, McGreevy has allowed just two runs across 11 2/3 innings of work. Fantasy managers should continue monitoring his status, as he is competing for a spot in the rotation. If he were to continue to perform well in camp, he could even become the No. 5 starter. Andre Pallante and Steven Matz are expected to be the No. 4 and No. 5 starters in the rotation. If McGreevy breaks camp as a starter, he does carry intriguing late-round value, given his success this spring.

Tue Mar 410:17Michael McGreevy Sharp In Spring Debut
St. Louis Cardinals starting pitching prospect Michael McGreevy tossed two shutout frames in his spring debut. The right-hander did not allow a baserunner and tallied two strikeouts. The 24-year-old is currently competing for a spot at the back-end of the St. Louis rotation. Last season, McGreevy received a brief taste of the majors and performed well as he held a 1.96 ERA with a 0.78 WHIP. He tallied 18 strikeouts across 23 innings. He showed elite command as he only served up walks at a 2.3 percent rate and generated groundballs at a strong 64.6 percent rate. Across 150 innings at the Triple-A level last summer, the 24-year-old held a 4.02 ERA with a 1.31 WHIP. If McGreevy were to fall short of a spot in the rotation, the Cardinals will likely have him open the campaign at Triple-A to further his development instead of moving him to the bullpen.

Fri Feb 1416:37Michael McGreevy Arrives In Great Shape
St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Michael McGreevy worked to add 15 pounds of muscle and arrived to spring training this year in great shape after making his major-league debut in 2024. The former first-round pick (18th overall) in 2021 went 3-0 over four outings (three starts) late last year and is now hoping to potentially win an Opening Day roster spot with St. Louis out of spring training. "He looks good [this Spring Training]. He put on some weight and had a really good offseason, and I'm excited to see what's coming out of that arm," manager Oliver Marmol said. The 24-year-old McGreevy had an eye-popping 62.5% ground-ball rate in his small sample size in the big leagues in addition to a miniscule 2.3% walk rate. McGreevy doesn't have overpowering stuff and probably won't ever be a big strikeout guy, but he has some decent upside in NL-only and dynasty leagues this year, even if he doesn't win an Opening Day rotation spot.
