Thu May 29 | 15:19 | Colton Gordon to Make Another Start on Saturday Against Rays |
Houston Astros rookie left-hander Colton Gordon will make another start in the rotation and face the visiting Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday. With both Hayden Wesneski and Ronel Blanco out for the season with elbow injuries, both Gordon and Ryan Gusto could stick around in Houston's starting rotation indefinitely. Gordon, a former eighth-rounder in 2021 out of Central Florida, has allowed nine earned runs on 19 hits (two homers) while walking only two and striking out 14 in 14 2/3 innings in his first three big-league starts versus the Royals, Rays and Mariners. The 26-year-old southpaw gave up three runs with no walks and seven strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision against Tampa back on May 19. Gordon's stuff isn't overly impressive, but he's a strike-thrower and has a plus matchup for fantasy managers in deeper formats looking for a streamer this weekend. |

Fri May 23 | 21:01 | Colton Gordon to Make Another Start on Sunday |
Houston Astros manager Joe Espada said that left-handed pitching prospect Colton Gordon will make another start on Sunday against the division-rival Seattle Mariners in place of the injured Ronel Blanco (elbow). Gordon, the team's No. 14 prospect per MLB Pipeline, could see extended run in Houston's starting rotation with Blanco likely facing an extended absence. The 26-year-old southpaw was recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land on Thursday and will be making his third big-league start after allowing six earned runs on 12 hits (two home runs) while walking two and striking out 10 in 9 2/3 innings in his first two starts against the Kansas City Royals and Tampa Bay Rays. The 6-foot-4, 225-pounder doesn't throw hard but has produced high spin rates. His sweeping slider is particularly effective against lefties, but he'll face a tough matchup this weekend against the first-place Mariners. |

Tue May 20 | 15:21 | Colton Gordon Optioned Back to Triple-A |
Houston Astros pitching prospect Colton Gordon was sent back to Triple-A Sugar Land on Tuesday after making two starts for the team over the past week. The southpaw allowed six earned runs on 12 hits and two walks while striking out 10 over 9 2/3 innings of work in those two starts. The Astros' 14th-ranked prospect had pitched well for Sugar Land, posting a 2.55 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and a 20.6 percent K-BB% over eight starts (42 1/3 IP), but was unable to replicate that success in the majors. The 26-year-old will surely get another opportunity at some point this season, but the 6-foot-4 hurler is not a stash candidate at this time. |

Mon May 12 | 13:42 | Colton Gordon A Candidate To Start On Wednesday |
Houston Astros general manager Dana Brown said on Sports Talk 790 that left-handed pitching prospect Colton Gordon is a candidate to be recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land to start on Wednesday against the visiting Kansas City Royals. Gordon could temporarily join the team's starting rotation in the big leagues as they move to a six-man rotation. The 26-year-old southpaw is regarded as Houston's No. 14 prospect by MLB Pipeline and could be a short-term stop-gap to help fill in for the injured Hayden Wesneski (elbow). The former eight-round pick in 2021 out of Central Florida has been sharp in eight starts at Triple-A, going 4-0 with a 2.55 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 43:8 K:BB in 42 1/3 innings. Gordon won't be a must-add in single-year fantasy leagues because he may only make a few starts. He leans on a low-velocity heater and sweeping slider to keep hitters off balance. |

Thu Feb 6 | 19:46 | Colton Gordon Could Push For Early Season Debut |
According to Brian McTaggart of MLB.com, Houston Astros pitching prospect Colton Gordon could push for an early-season debut. McTaggart noted that with Luis Garcia (elbow), Christian Javier (elbow), and Lance McCullers Jr. (forearm) all expected to be sideline past Opening Day, Gordon could find his way on the Opening Day roster. While Gordon may not earn a spot in the rotation, as Hayden Wesneski is expected to earn the No. 5 spot, Gordon could still find a role as a long reliever. The No. 12 ranked prospect in the Houston system on MLB.com held a 3.94 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP across 123 1/3 innings at the Triple-level last season. He struck out 124 batters and served up 39 free passes. This was a nice improvement compared to the 4.63 ERA and a 1.74 WHIP he held during his Triple-A debut in 2023. Fantasy managers in deeper formats should monitor the southpaw's progression during spring training, as he could see occasional starts during the first half of the season. |
