Wed Jul 223:50Kyle Harrison Gives Up Three Runs in Four Innings on Wednesday
Boston Red Sox left-handed pitcher Kyle Harrison took the loss on Wednesday, as he allowed three runs on five hits and two walks against Triple-A Syracuse. He struck out two. Harrison was a bit shaky again in his second start with Worcester as he allowed two homers. The 23-year-old again relied on his fastball in this outing, throwing it 47 percent of the time. However, it wasn't as effective as usual, inducing just two whiffs on 19 swings. His secondary offerings picked up some of the slack, though, with 8 whiffs on 18 swings total. Harrison has been looking for answers outside of his fastball, so while the surface numbers for this outing are not ideal, that is a bright spot to point to. Harrison will likely be back in the majors to make his Red Sox debut sometime this summer.

Fri Jun 2700:33Kyle Harrison Allows Four Runs in Four Innings
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Kyle Harrison allowed four runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out four in four innings against Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre. Harrison took the loss in his Triple-A Worcester debut and first outing since June 10. He relied heavily on his fastball throwing it nearly 60 percent of the time. He picked up 12 whiffs on 38 swings overall and was able to work up to 76 pitches. Harrison was looking improved this year in San Francisco working in between the rotation and bullpen, with a career best 25 percent strikeout rate. It remains to be seen how Boston will utilize him with the major league club.

Mon Jun 1612:17Kyle Harrison Optioned to Triple-A Worcester
Per the team, the Boston Red Sox have optioned newly acquired pitcher Kyle Harrison to Triple-A Worcester. Boston stunned the baseball world over the weekend when it flipped Rafael Devers for a package of players. Harrison was initially scheduled to toe the rubber on Sunday for San Francisco in their series finale with the Los Angeles Dodgers. However, he'll now presumably work out of Worcester's rotation. The 23-year-old operated from the bullpen and as a starter this season for the Giants, compiling a 1-1 record with a 4.56 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and 25:9 K:BB ratio in eight appearances (four starts, 23 2/3 innings). He will likely get a chance to stick with the big-league squad at some point this season, though when that is remains unclear.

Sun Jun 1520:11Kyle Harrison Traded to Red Sox
San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Kyle Harrison was traded to the Boston Red Sox in a massive trade on Sunday. Harrison was scheduled to take the mound for the Giants on Sunday night. Instead, Harrison will be headed to Boston along with Jordan Hicks, James Tibbs, and Jose Bello. In exchange, the Giants will receive slugger Rafael Devers from Boston. Harrison was rumored to be the odd man out once Justin Verlander (pectoral) returned to the rotation. Now, he'll get a chance to stick in a big league rotation with the Red Sox. Harrison has posted a 4.56 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, with 25 strikeouts in 23.2 innings with the Giants this season. The southpaw has worked as both a starter and reliever, so he should be an immediate help in Boston.

Thu Jun 508:31Kyle Harrison Diagnosed with a Bruised Elbow
San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Kyle Harrison (elbow) gave up five runs on nine hits in just 4 1/3 innings against the Padres on Wednesday, but his team rallied and won, earning him a no-decision. In the fifth inning, he was hit by a comebacker off the bat of Gavin Sheets and immediately left the game. The Giants said that Harrison is dealing with just a bruise, though, which could mean he'll be ready to go for his next start. If he keeps his current spot in the rotation, he will face the Rockies next Tuesday at Coors Field, but keep an eye on the situation to see if the Giants try to get him some extra recovery time after sustaining the bruise. It wasn't a great outing for Harrison before the injury, but the 23-year-old had shown good upside since moving to the rotation a few games ago.

Thu May 2912:27Kyle Harrison to Make Another Start on Friday Against Marlins
San Francisco Giants left-hander Kyle Harrison will make another start in the rotation in Friday's series opener on the road against the Miami Marlins. Harrison opened up the 2025 campaign in the minors before being called up on May 4 and initially working out of the bullpen in San Fran. The injury to right-hander Justin Verlander (pectoral) opened up a rotation spot for the 23-year-old southpaw, though, and he gave up two earned runs while walking none and striking out four in four innings in a loss to the Washington Nationals in his first start last Saturday. In what could be his final start before Verlander returns, Harrison should have a longer leash and will face a Marlins offense that ranks 15th in baseball with a .706 OPS. He should have more fantasy upside for those looking for a streamer on Friday's slate of games.

Fri May 2317:52Kyle Harrison Joining Rotation, Will Start on Saturday
The San Francisco Giants said that left-hander Kyle Harrison will join the starting rotation and get the nod on Saturday against the Washington Nationals in D.C. For the time being, Harrison will come out of the bullpen to make his first start of 2025 this weekend in place of the injured Justin Verlander (pectoral). The 23-year-old southpaw didn't make his season debut until earlier this month and has allowed two earned runs on two hits (one homer) while walking three and striking out seven in 5 1/3 innings out of the bullpen. Because of the fact that Harrison hasn't gone over two innings in any of his outings in over two weeks since joining San Fran, he won't be a recommended fantasy streaming option on Saturday, even in a plus matchup against the Nats. Harrison had a disappointing 22.2% strikeout rate in 24 starts in 2024 while posting a 4.56 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 118:42 K:BB in 124 1/3 frames.

Tue May 610:12Kyle Harrison Called Up To Pitch Out Of Bullpen
The San Francisco Giants recalled left-hander Kyle Harrison from Triple-A Sacramento on Monday, and the team's plan is for Harrison to work out of their bullpen, according to NBC Sports Bay Area's Alex Pavlovic. Harrison's velocity has improved in recent weeks and he had a 3.46 ERA and 1.31 WHIP with eight walks and 38 strikeouts in 26 innings over his six starts for Sacramento. The 23-year-old southpaw could eventually work his way back into the Giants' starting rotation, but for now he'll pitch in relief and won't really be much of a fantasy weapon. In his first two big-league seasons in 2023 and 2024, the former third-rounder went 8-8 with a 4.47 ERA (4.59 FIP) and 1.30 WHIP with 53 walks and 153 strikeouts in 159 innings over 31 starts for the Gigantes. It's encouraging that his velocity is back up, but fantasy managers will need to see more.

Sat Mar 2214:09Kyle Harrison Optioned To Triple-A
The San Francisco Giants have optioned left-handed pitcher Kyle Harrison to Triple-A Sacramento. Harrison was competing for the final spot in the rotation but fell short. During spring training, Harrison logged six 2/3 innings to the tune of a high 10.80 ERA with a 2.10 WHIP. The 23-year-old made his MLB debut during the 2023 campaign and logged 34 2/3 innings with a 4.15 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP. In 2024, Harrison tossed 124 2/3 innings in San Francisco and held a 4.56 ERA with a 1.34 WHIP. During this stint, Harrison tallied just 118 punchouts and held a 7.9 percent walk rate. The southpaw also generated a high 4.87 xERA with a .257 xBA, which placed him in the 14th and 24th percentile, respectively, among qualified pitchers. With Harrison being sent to Triple-A, Hayden Birdsong and Landen Roupp will compete for the No. 5 spot in the rotation.

Tue Feb 2523:16Kyle Harrison To Make Spring Debut On Friday
San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Kyle Harrison is expected to make his Cactus League debut on Friday against the Brewers, although Logan Webb will be the starter for that game and Harrison will follow. Harrison is anticipated to work as the fifth man in the rotation for the Giants to start 2025 but has yet to live up to some lofty strikeout potential he flashed in the minors. The southpaw boasted a 37.4 percent strikeout rate in the minors but owns just 22.5 percent in the majors, which is slightly below league average. On the flip side, some command problems he displayed in the minors with high walk rates have been improved at the big league level, coming in at a 7.8 percent walk rate through 31 career starts for San Francisco, slightly better than league average. The former third-round draft pick carried a 3.69 ERA (3.88 FIP) and a 1.28 WHIP into August last year (18 GS), but fell apart over his final six starts to the tune of a 7.76 ERA and 1.58 WHIP before being shut down for the final month due to right shoulder inflammation. He'll look to get back on track in 2025, but his spot in the rotation feels tenuous, so he'll need to get off to a good start. As such, the lefty's ADP sits well outside the top 300 picks, so he should only be considered in deeper league fantasy drafts.

Wed Feb 1216:09Kyle Harrison To Compete For Rotation Spot
San Francisco Giants manager Bob Melvin said that left-hander Kyle Harrison will compete with right-hander Hayden Birdsong for the fifth starting rotation spot in spring training. The San Francisco Chronicle's Shayna Rubin reports that Harrison, who had a noticeable dip in velocity in 2024, said his velocity is back where he wants it and has corrected issues with his delivery that occurred after he suffered ankle and shoulder injuries. The 23-year-old was shut down early last year due to left-shoulder inflammation, which was probably the primary cause of his drop in velocity. With good health, he should have a leg up on the final rotation spot over Birdsong and could be due for a bounce-back campaign after posting a 4.56 ERA and 1.34 WHIP with a 118:42 K:BB in 24 starts (124 1/3 innings) in his first full MLB season in 2024. RotoBaller has Harrison outside of its top-100 starting pitching rankings.

Fri Sep 6 202421:39Kyle Harrison Done For The Season
Updating a previous report, San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Kyle Harrison (shoulder) was placed in the injured list on Friday with left-shoulder inflammation. The Giants have shut him down for the remainder of the season and will look towards 2025 for the lefty. Harrison's velocity had been down in the second half of the season, resulting in a very subpar 5.63 ERA in eight starts after the All-Star break. The 23-year-old was able to make 24 starts this season and posted a 4.56 ERA, though it was paired with a 4.85 xERA (17th percentile). Harrison will have work to do to improve in 2025 and stabilize the back end of a solid Giants rotation. Fantasy managers who are looking to replace Harrison on their roster may want to look at Hayden Birdsong, who has struck out 64 batters in 52 IP, though his 5.19 ERA may cause some worries.

Fri Sep 6 202417:48Giants Place Kyle Harrison On 15-Day Injured List
The San Francisco Giants placed left-hander Kyle Harrison (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to Sept. 4) on Friday with left-shoulder inflammation and recalled right-hander Austin Warren from Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move. The move comes after Harrison was slapped around on Tuesday in his most recent outing versus the division-rival Arizona Diamondbacks, when he surrendered six earned runs on seven hits while walking one and fanning three in just 2 2/3 frames. The 23-year-old southpaw has been awful since the start of August with a 7.76 ERA and 1.57 WHIP over 26 2/3 innings, but it's unclear how long his shoulder has been bothering him. There is time for Harrison to return to SF's starting rotation, but only if he's able to return after the 15 days. In any event, there's a good chance we've seen the last of Harrison in 2024.

Sat Jul 27 202408:08Kyle Harrison Strikes Out 11 On Friday
San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Kyle Harrison struck out 11 batters across 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball. He allowed just one hit and two walks. The only run scored in the third inning off a sacrifice fly by Ezequiel Tovar. The 22-year-old southpaw has begun to find his footing over his last three starts, as he has carried a stellar 1.06 ERA, 0.82 WHIP, and a 7:20 BB:K. Prior to his most recent three outings, Harrison carried a hefty 5.55 ERA and 1.57 WHIP from May 12 to July 6. Overall, he sits with a 3.69 ERA and 1.28 WHIP through 97 innings this season. Harrison could be worth starting in all leagues as he continues this excellent run.

Fri Jul 5 202414:23Kyle Harrison To Come Off Injured List And Start On Saturday
San Francisco Giants left-hander Kyle Harrison (ankle) is slated to be reinstated from the 15-day injured list in order to make his return to the team's starting rotation on Saturday against the hosting Cleveland Guardians. Harrison has missed almost a month of action due to a right-ankle sprain, but he's going to skip a minor-league rehab assignment and jump right back into big-league action. The 22-year-old southpaw will be making his first start since June 10. Harrison has been decent for the Giants and fantasy managers in 2024, going 4-3 with a 3.96 ERA and 1.33 WHIP with 68 strikeouts in 14 starts covering 77 1/3 innings. He'll be much more risky in fantasy lineups in his first start back after a long layoff, though, especially on the road and against the first-place Guardians. Tread carefully on Saturday.

Tue Jun 11 202410:32Kyle Harrison Sharp Against Astros In No-Decision
San Francisco Giants left-hander Kyle Harrison notched his seventh quality start after he allowed one earned run over 6 1/3 innings in Monday's 4-3 extra-inning win over the Houston Astros. Harrison scattered four hits and did not allow a walk while striking out three despite recording a no-decision. The promising youngster has been up and down all season with a 4-3 record and a 3.96 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 68 strikeouts and 22 walks over 77 1/3 innings. After managing the Astros, Harrison has a much better matchup against the Angels on Sunday, something fantasy managers (especially DFS gamers) should keep in mind.

Wed May 8 202410:08Kyle Harrison Throws Seven Scoreless Innings In Win
San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Kyle Harrison threw seven scoreless innings in Tuesday's 5-0 victory over the Rockies, picking up his third win of the year. The southpaw allowed just four hits while walking two and striking out two. He now sports a 3.20 ERA (3.81 FIP), 1.22 WHIP, and a 15.1% K-BB% on the year through eight starts. Known for being more of a strikeout pitcher, his 40 strikeouts in 45 IP is somewhat disappointing, but other than that there isn't much to complain about. The 22-year-old is having a fine season so far for the Giants, and his next start tentatively lines up with the Reds next week at home. The Reds have a .208 batting average as a team against LHP, which is fifth-worst in the league.

Fri May 3 202407:16Kyle Harrison Strikes Out Seven On Thursday
San Francisco Giants left-hander Kyle Harrison turned in a quality performance in a 3-1 win over the Boston Red Sox on Thursday. Harrison allowed one run on three hits over five innings of work while striking out seven and walking five but had to settle for a no-decision in the contest. Harrison struggled a bit with his control in issuing five free passes but was able to work around the walks on the way to lowering his ERA to 3.79. Harrison now has a 2-1 record and 38 strikeouts over 38 innings of work in 2024. He will look to keep it going in his next start, which is scheduled to come on Tuesday on the road against the Colorado Rockies.

Fri May 3 202401:30Kyle Harrison Wild But Effective On Thursday
San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Kyle Harrison issued five walks but still managed to throw five innings of one-run ball in a 3-1 win against the Boston Red Sox on Thursday. Harrison didn't pick up the win as San Francisco went ahead for good in the seventh, but Harrison had a solid start nonetheless. He allowed just three hits and struck out seven to round out his line. The 22-year-old rookie has allowed three or fewer runs in six of his seven starts this season. If Harrison can put it all together, he's got major upside that warrants being rostered in most leagues.

Sat Mar 30 202409:50Kyle Harrison Strikes Out Five In Win
San Francisco Giants starter Kyle Harrison pitched six innings Friday, giving up six hits and two earned runs, but he didn't walk a batter and struck out five on the way to earning a win in his first start of the 2024 season. Harrison threw 54 of his 76 pitches for strikes, which was great to see from someone who is known for his strikeout ability but also for some command issues during his time in the minor leagues. Two of the hits were home runs (Machado, Tatis) and he gave up eight long balls last season in 34 2/3 IP at the major league level, which makes limiting the walks all that more important going forward. The southpaw likely gets the Dodgers next.
