Thu Jul 3 | 21:46 | Casey Schmitt "Significantly Better" After Cortisone Shot |
San Francisco Giants infielder Casey Schmitt (hand) received a cortisone shot on his ailing left hand this week and is feeling "significantly better," manager Bob Melvin said. Schmitt went on the 10-day injured list June 30 (retroactive to June 27) after taking a pitch off the wrist on June 25. The 26-year-old has a good chance to come off the IL when he's first eligible on July 7. Before suffering the injury, Schmitt batted an impressive .276/.360/.439 with four homers, 15 RBI, and 13 runs scored over 112 plate appearances. He was especially effective filling in at third base for the injured Matt Chapman in June. Chapman should return to reclaim third in the coming days, but Schmitt will continue serving as useful depth when the Giants activate him. |

Mon Jun 30 | 19:41 | Casey Schmitt Placed on 10-Day Injured List, Tyler Fitzgerald Recalled |
The San Francisco Giants placed infielder Casey Schmitt (hand) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to June 27) on Monday with left-hand inflammation and recalled infielder Tyler Fitzgerald from Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move, according to MLB.com's Justice delos Santos. Christian Koss is making another start at third base and is hitting leadoff, while Fitzgerald is at second base and batting seventh on Monday against Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Ryne Nelson. Schmitt is dealing with a bone bruise in his left hand/wrist and will head to the IL after missing each of the last four games. He could be able to return to the team for the start of the second half on July 18, but by that time, starting third baseman Matt Chapman (hand) is expected to be back from his IL stint. Schmitt will be a bench infielder when he's recovered from his hand injury. |

Mon Jun 30 | 18:54 | Casey Schmitt Likely Headed to Injured List |
San Francisco Giants infielder Casey Schmitt (hand) is expected to be placed on the injured list, according to Alex Pavlovic. Schmitt has missed each of the last five games due to bone bruise in his left wrist. The MRI came back negative, but it sounds like Schmitt is likely still headed for a stint on the IL. Tyler Fitzgerald currently has a locker in the Giants clubhouse, so it's assumed Schmitt is going to the shelf. Wilmer Flores has been seeing more time at first base while Christian Koss gets more action at the hot corner. Fitzgerald figures to come off the bench and give those two a break while Schmitt recovers. |

Sun Jun 29 | 14:10 | Casey Schmitt Scratched on Sunday |
San Francisco Giants infielder Casey Schmitt (wrist) has been scratched from the starting lineup ahead of Sunday's game against the Chicago White Sox. Schmitt will now miss his fourth straight game due to wrist contusion. Giants manager Bob Melvin told reporters that Schmitt will undergo an MRI on Monday. Schmitt continues to deal with pain in his wrist from getting hit by a pitch earlier in the week. It's possible he lands on the injured list, but for now fantasy managers can consider him as day-to-day. Wilmer Flores will take over at first base and bat third versus right-hander Jonathan Cannon. |

Sat Jun 28 | 14:27 | Casey Schmitt Scratched on Saturday |
San Francisco Giants third baseman Casey Schmitt (wrist) was a late scratch from Saturday's lineup against the Chicago White Sox. The Giants initially had Schmitt penciled in to start at third and bat fifth, but they'll instead use Christian Koss at the hot corner and lead him off against White Sox starter Adrian Houser. Schmitt hasn't played since he took a 95 mph sinker from Miami Marlins reliever Calvin Faucher off the left wrist on Wednesday. X-rays came back negative, but with Schmitt scratched Saturday, it's an injury that's still worth monitoring. Schmitt has hit a highly productive 20-for-60 with four home runs and 12 RBI this month, so hopefully he'll be able to return soon. The Giants are already without injured starting third baseman Matt Chapman (hand), which has opened the door for Schmitt. |

Thu Jun 26 | 13:52 | Casey Schmitt Out for Series Finale |
San Francisco Giants infielder Casey Schmitt (wrist) is out of the starting lineup for Thursday's series finale at Oracle Park against the visiting Miami Marlins. Christian Koss is making the start at the hot corner and will bat seventh, while Brett Wisely starts at second base and hits in the eight-hole against Marlins right-hander Janson Junk. Schmitt took a pitch off his left wrist in the ninth inning of Wednesday's loss to the Fish and looked to be in a lot of pain. X-rays on the 26-year-old came back negative, though, so he could be ready for Friday's series finale in Chicago against the White Sox if the swelling in his hand goes down. The Giants have an off day on Thursday. Schmitt has become the regular at third in San Fran with Matt Chapman (hand) sidelined and has taken advantage, going 10-for-20 with a homer, double, RBI and seven runs scored in the last six games since June 19. UPDATE: Schmitt is getting a CT scan on Thursday. |

Thu Jun 26 | 10:34 | Casey Schmitt Injures Wrist, X-Rays Negative |
San Francisco Giants third baseman Casey Schmitt (wrist) was hit in the left wrist on a 95 mph sinker from Miami Marlins closer Calvin Faucher in the bottom of the ninth inning on Wednesday. Schmitt stayed in the game in the top of the 10th, but the Giants were going to pinch-hit for him in the bottom of the inning. He underwent X-rays after the Giants' 8-5 loss, and they came back negative, according to Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area. Schmitt could undergo more testing today. The hope is that he won't require a stint on the 10-day injured list. The Giants are already shorthanded at the hot corner with starter Matt Chapman on the IL because of a hand injury, but Schmitt has excelled in his absence. He's 20-for-60 (.333) with four home runs, 12 RBI, and a dozen runs scored in 19 games this month. |

Mon Jun 23 | 07:19 | Casey Schmitt Homers in Win Over Boston |
San Francisco Giants third baseman Casey Schmitt had a big day in his team's 9-5 win over the Boston Red Sox on Sunday. Schmitt went 4-for-4 with a double, a homer, three runs, and an RBI to help lead the Giants to the win. The veteran infielder is now slashing .286/.369/.462 with four homers, 11 runs, and 15 RBI across 91 at-bats for San Francisco this season. Schmitt has been red-hot of late, hitting .378 over his past 15 contests, making him worth a look in fantasy leagues. |

Sun Jun 15 | 20:37 | Casey Schmitt Exits Early on Sunday |
San Francisco Giants third baseman Casey Schmitt (foot) was removed early during Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Schmitt fouled a ball off his foot in the top of the second inning. He attempted to play through the issue before being pulled out in the bottom of the third. The assumption is that he'll undergo X-rays to determine the severity of the issue. For now, fantasy managers should consider Schmitt as day-to-day until the testing is back. Tyler Fitzgerald took over at third base and could see more time over there going forward. |

Sat Jun 14 | 09:24 | Casey Schmitt Smacks a Grand Slam in Win Over Dodgers |
San Francisco Giants infielder Casey Schmitt went 1-for-3 with a walk and a grand slam in Friday's 6-2 win over the Dodgers. The slam came off of Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who had come into the game with just a 2.20 ERA and had allowed home runs in just four of his 13 starts before Friday. Schmitt has a hit in each of the last four games, with both of the home runs he's hit this year coming in that span as well. The 26-year-old missed a month earlier this season with an oblique injury and had only been getting sporadic starts upon his return until recently. With Matt Chapman going on the IL, Schmitt has been manning third base, and if he continues to hit, the former second-round draft pick could become an intriguing waiver wire add with his eligibility at 1B, 2B, 3B, and SS. |

Tue May 13 | 17:25 | Tyler Fitzgerald, Casey Schmitt Starting Rehab Assignments On Tuesday |
San Francisco Giants infielders Tyler Fitzgerald (rib) and Casey Schmitt (oblique) are both starting their minor-league rehab assignments with Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, according to MLB.com's Justice delos Santos. Fitzgerald is at second base and is batting leadoff, while Schmitt is at first base and hitting second for the River Cats. Fitzgerald is recovering from a fractured left rib, but barring setbacks, both infielders could rejoin the major-league roster in San Francisco by later this week or the weekend. The 27-year-old Fitzgerald is more fantasy relevant, as he'll likely return to regular playing time at the keystone with the Giants when he returns from the injured list. He hit .280 in 96 games a year ago with 15 home runs and 17 stolen bases, making him attractive as a middle-infield option for fantasy managers in deep-mixed leagues. |

Mon May 12 | 19:27 | Tyler Fitzgerald, Casey Schmitt Could Start Rehab Assignments On Tuesday |
The San Francisco Giants say that infielders Tyler Fitzgerald (rib) and Casey Schmitt (oblique) could start their minor-league rehab assignments on Tuesday. Fitzgerald is rehabbing from a fractured left rib that he suffered in the middle of April, while Schmitt is more than three weeks removed from a Grade 2 oblique strain. Depending on how both players fare while on their rehab assignments, they could rejoin the big-league roster by this weekend or early next week. Of the two, Fitzgerald is the more attractive fantasy asset as a regular at second base for the Giants when he's healthy. The 27-year-old surprised with intriguing power and speed in 96 games in 2024 and was hitting a solid .284/.341/.432 with two long balls, seven RBI, 14 runs scored and five steals in 25 games before his injury. Fantasy managers looking for middle-infield help in deep-mixed leagues might want to snag Fitzgerald now if he's available. |

Sat Apr 19 | 07:56 | Casey Schmitt Expected To Hit Injured List |
San Francisco Giants infielder Casey Schmitt (oblique) is expected to be placed on the injured list. Schmitt sustained this injury in the batting cage shortly before Friday's contest against the Los Angeles Angels. He was a late scratch to the starting nine as well. Fantasy managers should monitor his status leading up to Saturday's contest in case he makes progress. Through the early part of the 2025 campaign, Schmitt has seen time at first base and the keystone. Through eight games, Schmitt posted a .174/.208/.261 slash line. However, under the hood, the 26-year-old should be in line to see some positive regression as he has generated a much higher .278 xBA with a stellar 21.4 percent barrel rate. If Schmitt were to hit the injured list, fantasy managers should expect Wilmer Flores to see more time at first base and Christian Koss to see more time at the keystone. |
