Thu Jul 317:04Kodai Senga Could be "in Play" to Return Before All-Star Break
New York Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said that the goal is for right-hander Kodai Senga (hamstring) to pitch in a minor-league rehab game for Double-A Binghamton this weekend. The skipper also said that Senga could be "in play" to come off the injured list before the All-Star break. The Mets' starting rotation should be getting reinforcements soon, with left-hander Sean Manaea (elbow, oblique) also potentially returning to the fold before the All-Star break. Senga has been out since the middle of June with a strained right hamstring, but if all goes well with his rehab start this weekend, the 32-year-old veteran could return to action for the Mets by July 12 against the Kansas City Royals. Senga should be rostered in all fantasy leagues and will be a must-start as soon as he returns after going 7-3 with a 1.47 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 70 strikeouts in his 73 2/3 innings over 13 starts.

Tue Jul 118:36Kodai Senga Throws Batting Practice
New York Mets starting pitcher Kodai Senga (hamstring) threw a live batting practice session on Sunday. This was the first time that Senga has faced live hitters since landing on the injured list in early June. The next step is for Senga to throw a bullpen session and go through some fielding practice. If everything goes well, Senga should be cleared to go on a rehab assignment. The right-hander is working his way back from a Grade 1 hamstring strain. The expectation is that Senga won't be back in the rotation until mid-July. Fantasy managers will just have to hold tight for a few more weeks.

Mon Jun 2320:08Kodai Senga Throws Off a Mound
New York Mets right-hander Kodai Senga (hamstring) was scheduled to play catch off a mound on Monday, according to MLB.com's Anthony DiComo. Senga has been able to keep his arm moving after suffering a Grade 1 right-hamstring strain on June 12 in his start against the Washington Nationals. Although the 32-year-old's hamstring strain is mild, the Mets aren't going to rush him back and he's not expected to rejoin the big-league starting rotation until after the mid-July All-Star break. Fantasy managers must remain patient until then and keep him stashed in an injured-list spot in all leagues. Senga made only one start in his second year in the big leagues in 2024 due to injury. He hasn't been able to avoid injury this year, either, but he's gone 7-3 with a strong 1.47 ERA and 1.11 WHIP with 70 K's and 31 walks in 13 starts (73 2/3 innings) this year.

Sat Jun 1400:14Kodai Senga Diagnosed With Grade 1 Hamstring Strain
New York Mets right-hander Kodai Senga (hamstring) has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 hamstring strain, according to NorthJersey's Andrew Tredinnick. Senga will be re-evaluated after two weeks, and it's relatively good news for the Mets, Senga and fantasy managers. The 32-year-old injured his right hamstring while covering first base in Thursday's win against the Washington Nationals when he came down awkwardly on the first base bag on a high throw. Based on the way it looked, the diagnosis of a mild hamstring strain is good news. Senga is still going to miss at least several weeks, and depending on whether he needs a minor-league rehab assignment, he might be cutting it close to make it back before the All-Star break in mid-July. Keep him stashed in all fantasy leagues. Meanwhile, Paul Blackburn is taking his rotation spot for now. He's a deep-league streamer with limited upside.

Thu Jun 1216:31Kodai Senga Heading to Injured List With Hamstring Strain
New York Mets right-hander Kodai Senga (hamstring) suffered a right-hamstring strain during his start on Thursday against the division-rival Washington Nationals and will go on the 15-day injured list, according to manager Carlos Mendoza. The Mets won't know the exact severity of his hamstring injury until Senga undergoes an MRI exam on Friday. The 32-year-old injured himself covering first base on a ground ball in the sixth inning in which he came down awkwardly on his right leg on a high throw that he had to jump for. It's unclear how much time he'll need to miss, but it's a big blow for fantasy managers and the Mets. Before leaving, Senga was masterful, tossing 5 2/3 shutout innings while allowing just one hit, walking one and striking out five for his seventh win of the year. Keep Senga stashed in an IL spot in all fantasy formats.

Thu Jun 1215:05Kodai Senga Leaves Thursday's Start With Leg Injury
New York Mets right-hander Kodai Senga (leg) injured his right leg while covering first base in the top of the sixth inning at Citi Field against the division-rival Washington Nationals and was forced to leave the game, according to MLB.com's Anthony DiComo. It didn't look good, and Senga was seen grabbing at his right hamstring before spending a long time down on the ground being surrounded by coaches and trainers. He walked off the field under his own power with a pronounced limp. The good news is that Senga was excellent on the mound before leaving, throwing 5 2/3 scoreless innings with six strikeouts. The bad news is the injury didn't look good, and it's very possible he'll be forced to the 15-day injured list. Fantasy managers will need to check back for the severity of his injury, but this could be a big blow to New York's starting rotation.

Sat Jun 701:07Kodai Senga Dealt No-Decision Despite Solid Outing
New York Mets starting pitcher Kodai Senga allowed five hits and one earned run over six innings of work in Friday's 4-2 win against the Colorado Rockies. He struck out six and walked two but did not factor into the decision. Senga was undoubtedly deserving of a win, and nearly got one, too, as the Mets scored two runs in the seventh to take a 2-1 lead. However, reliever Huascar Brazoban would yield one run to knot it up in the bottom half of the inning. The 32-year-old has been phenomenal in his 12 starts, yet to allow more than three earned runs in any appearance and one or fewer in eight of them. He'll carry a terrific 1.59 ERA and 1.18 WHIP into his next outing -- a meeting with the visiting Washington Nationals next week.

Wed May 721:35Kodai Senga Throws Six Scoreless Innings
New York Mets starting pitcher Kodai Senga didn't have the best start to the game, but he was able to have success during Wednesday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The right-hander allowed five walks over the first few innings of this contest. Luckily, Senga was able to work around the walks as he threw six shutout innings. He allowed two hits, five walks, and struck out four batters over his six innings of work. He'll take a 1.16 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 35/17 K/BB ratio into his next start against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Senga has been excellent this season as he has allowed two earned runs or less in all seven of his starts this season.

Tue Apr 800:16Kodai Senga Tosses Five Shutout Innings In Monday's Win
New York Mets starting pitcher Kodai Senga earned his first win of the season in Monday's 2-0 win over the Marlins. Senga pitched five scoreless innings, allowing five hits and two walks with four strikeouts. The 32-year-old has looked strong and healthy through two starts this season after being plagued by injury in 2024 and is now 1-1 with a 1.80 ERA, 12 strikeouts, and three walks in 10 IP. Strikeouts have always been part of Senga's game, but so have walks, so his low count through his first two starts is encouraging. Senga should have a good chance to string together a third consecutive solid outing in his next scheduled matchup at the struggling Braves.

Fri Mar 2110:15Kodai Senga Strikes Out Six In Thursday's Outing
New York Mets right-hander Kodai Senga struck out six batters during his start on Thursday against the Washington Nationals. During his start, he threw 3 2/3 innings, did not allow a hit, walked two batters, and allowed up one unearned run. This was an encouraging outing for the 32-year-old starter, as, during the 2024 season, he was limited to just four appearances due to a shoulder and a calf injury and only had one appearance in the regular season. The Mets and fantasy managers hope he can stay healthy this year because he has showcased ace potential stuff when healthy. Entering the 2025 season, he is expected to open at the top of the Mets rotation.

Sun Mar 211:56Kodai Senga Will Make Spring Debut On Monday
New York Mets starting pitcher Kodai Senga will make his spring debut on Monday evening against the Miami Marlins. The right-hander is expected to only throw one inning. The 32-year-old was limited to just four appearances during the entire 2024 campaign due to a shoulder and a calf injury. During the postseason, Senga logged five innings and allowed seven earned runs. In the regular season he made just one start where he tallied nine strikeouts with two earned runs across five 1/3 innings. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status but seeing him make his spring debut suggests he should see his normal workload by Opening Day. During the 2023 season, Senga held a strong 2.98 ERA with a 1.22 WHIP across 166 1/3 innings. He is expected to be open the season at the top of the Mets starting rotation.

Tue Feb 2514:27Kodai Senga Not Cleared For Grapefruit League Action
New York Mets right-hander Kodai Senga hasn't been cleared to pitch in Grapefruit League games yet, according to manager Carlos Mendoza. Senga will have a couple more simulated outings in live batting practice, including on Wednesday. "A more controlled environment," Mendoza said. Despite Senga not being ready for spring training games yet, the feedback on his buildup/health continues to be positive after he was able to make only one regular-season start in 2024 due to calf and shoulder injuries. The 32-year-old is a prime bounce-back candidate for fantasy managers in 2025, but you should also be hesitant because of the fact that he threw only 10 1/3 innings last season. Even if he's ready for Opening Day in late March, expect the Mets to ease him into things early on, limiting his fantasy ceiling. Senga is ranked at No. 47 among fantasy starting pitchers at RotoBaller.

Sun Feb 1612:29Kodai Senga Throws Batting Practice Session
New York Mets starting pitcher Kodai Senga (elbow) was able to throw a success live batting practice session. The 32-year-old was reportedly all smiles coming off the mound as he continues his way back from Tommy John surgery. Senga was only able to pitch in one regular season game last season before returning in the postseason. The Mets are reportedly going to use a six-man rotation in 2025, which should be a benefit to Senga who is coming off a major elbow injury. The move to a six-man rotation will probably somewhat limit Senga's fantasy value, but the key right now is keeping the right-hander healthy.

Sun Feb 1612:27Kodai Senga Throws Batting Practice Session
New York Mets starting pitcher Kodai Senga (calf, shoulder) was able to throw a successful live batting practice session this weekend at spring training. The 32-year-old was reportedly all smiles coming off the mound as he works his way back from calf and shoulder injuries that limited him to just one regular-season start in 2024. The Mets are reportedly going to use a six-man starting rotation in 2025, which should be a benefit to Senga. The move to a six-man rotation will probably somewhat limit Senga's fantasy value early in the year, but the key right now is keeping the right-hander healthy.

Tue Feb 1112:24Kodai Senga Feeling Completely Healthy
New York Mets right-hander Kodai Senga (calf, shoulder) said that his offseason was half rehab and half normal and that he has been feeling completely healthy and normal since early January. Due to calf and shoulder injuries last year, Senga only made one start in the regular season and four appearances overall. The good news is that he shouldn't have any restrictions in spring training and should be ready for Opening Day in late March, barring any setbacks in camp. The 32-year-old was an All-Star in his rookie campaign in 2023, when he went 12-7 with a 2.98 ERA (3.63 FIP) and 1.22 WHIP with 202 strikeouts and 77 walks in 166 1/3 innings over 29 starts for the Mets. With good health, Senga will be a prime bounce-back candidate for fantasy managers to target in upcoming drafts. He'll come at a discount because of his injuries last year, and RotoBaller has him ranked as the No. 47 fantasy starting pitcher.

Fri Oct 18 202416:22Kodai Senga Unlikely To Pitch In Game 5 Against Dodgers
New York Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said that right-hander Kodai Senga is unlikely to pitch now for Game 5 of the National League Championship Series on Friday at Citi Field against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Mets are comfortable with left-handed starter David Peterson throwing up to 80 pitches and desperately need him to eat up innings in a must-win game with the Mets down 3-1 in the best-of-seven series. Mendoza also said that left-hander Sean Manaea, who started Game 2 on Monday, is not available. Relievers Ryne Stanek and Edwin Diaz could combine to get the last 12 outs of the game if the Mets have a lead late in the game. The 31-year-old Senga only made one start in the regular season due to injuries and was hit around to the tune of three earned runs and four walks in just 1 1/3 innings in his start in Game 1 of the NLCS on Sunday.

Wed Oct 16 202418:52Kodai Senga Could Be Used In Relief In Game 5
New York Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said that right-hander Kodai Senga is scheduled to pitch in Game 5 of the National League Championship Series at Citi Field on Friday against the Los Angeles Dodgers, and he could be used in a relief role. "At what capacity, we'll see," Mendoza said. The Mets may be rethinking using Senga to start Game 5 after he labored in the Game 1 loss to the Dodgers on Sunday by allowing three earned runs on two hits while walking four and striking out none in just 1 1/3 innings. He also allowed a solo home run while walking one and striking out three in two innings in his start in Game 1 of the NL Division Series against the Philadelphia Phillies. Due to multiple injuries, the Japanese hurler managed to make just one start during the regular season. DFS managers should stay away in Game 5 in New York.

Mon Oct 14 202401:23Kodai Senga Tosses Clunker In Game 1 Loss
New York Mets starting pitcher Kodai Senga had a rough outing in Game 1 of the NLCS against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday, taking the loss in a 9-0 defeat. Senga had all kinds of control issues, walking four and throwing a wild pitch in his 1 innings of work. He just didn't have it tonight, which makes sense for a pitcher who had only thrown 7 IP this season between the regular season and playoffs. He can be elite when he's on, but he hasn't quite found that version of himself yet. He could get a chance to redeem himself later in the series, but manager Carlos Mendoza wouldn't confirm that and said they will have to see where Senga is at in the next few days.

Sat Oct 12 202412:23Kodai Senga To Start Game 1 Of NLCS
New York Mets right-hander Kodai Senga will officially start Game 1 of the National League Championship Series on Sunday at Dodger Stadium against the Los Angeles Dodgers, and he's expected to go around three innings. Manager Carlos Mendoza doesn't know who the bulk reliever will be after Senga. The 31-year-old Japanese hurler made just one start during the regular season due to shoulder, calf and triceps injuries but rejoined the team's playoff roster for the NL Division Series against the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies. He made the start in Game 1 and allowed a solo home run while walking one and striking out three in just two innings of work. Senga might be able to go a little longer in his next outing against the Dodgers, but he won't be a recommended DFS play in the opener role against one of the best offenses in baseball. The best bet is lefty David Peterson follows Senga in the bulk role.

Fri Oct 11 202416:08Kodai Senga Likely To Start Game 1 Of NLCS
New York Mets right-hander Kodai Senga is likely to get the nod to start Game 1 of the National League Championship Series on Sunday against either the Los Angeles Dodgers or San Diego Padres on the road. The Mets just need to check in with all of their pitchers to make sure that everyone is on track before making a final decision on Saturday. Senga only made one start for the Mets during the regular season due to shoulder, triceps and calf injuries, but he rejoined the playoff roster for the Division Series against the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies and made the start in Game 1, giving up an earned run on a solo homer while walking one and striking out three in just two innings of work. Because Senga didn't have enough time to properly stretch his arm out at the end of the year, he's likely to only go a few innings again in Game 1 of the NLCS this weekend.
