Mon May 1209:32Evan Carter Has A Productive Sunday At The Plate
Texas Rangers' young outfielder Evan Carter had a nice afternoon on Sunday, as he went 2-for-5 with one run scored, one RBI, and a stolen base. The stolen base was his first of the season, and something to keep an eye on as Carter swiped 26 bases in the MiLB in 2023, and six in his 21 games played in Triple-A in 2025. Since getting promoted to the MLB on May 6, Carter has slashed .273/.273/.409 in 22 plate appearances. This is encouraging for Carter and those who own him in dynasty formats, as his rookie campaign showed much promise in 2023, when he slashed .306/.413/.645 in 75 plate appearances. 2024 was a different story (.188/.272/.361), and he started 2025 in Triple-A. Carter will look to continue his nice seven-day stretch as the Rangers head home to take on the Colorado Rockies in a three-game series.

Fri May 917:31Corey Seager, Evan Carter Out Against A Lefty
Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager and outfielder Evan Carter are both out of Friday's series opener in Detroit against the Tigers and tough left-hander Tarik Skubal. Josh Smith is starting at shortstop and is hitting seventh, while Sam Haggerty is patrolling center field and batting leadoff. Fantasy managers should be on the lookout for more news on Seager, as he was also out in Thursday's series finale against the Boston Red Sox. This will be his second straight missed game. Smith is hitting over .300 on the year for Texas but is an easy DFS fade at the bottom of the lineup in a tough lefty-lefty matchup. Haggerty will be making his debut with the Rangers after going 1-for-15 in eight games for the Seattle Mariners in 2024. Even in the leadoff spot, he's not much to look at for DFS. Smith is 0-for-3 in his career against Skubal, while Haggerty is just 0-for-1.

Tue May 615:53Evan Carter Officially Recalled And Starting On Tuesday
The Texas Rangers officially recalled outfielder Evan Carter from Triple-A Round Rock, and he's starting in center field and batting seventh on Tuesday against Boston Red Sox right-hander Lucas Giolito at Fenway Park. Although Carter hit just .188 (27-for-144), dealt with injuries and played in only 45 games for the Rangers last year, he's worth looking at as a waiver-wire pickup right away in deeper mixed formats now that he's back in the big leagues. The Rangers recently cut Leody Taveras, so the 22-year-old Carter could end up being on the strong side of a platoon in center for Texas. Carter was cold at the plate early on at Round Rock, but he hit .271 with two home runs and three steals in his last 12 games to get the call back to the majors. He has a hit in just two career at-bats against Giolito.

Mon May 517:16Evan Carter Likely To Be Recalled On Tuesday
The Texas Rangers are likely going to recall outfielder Evan Carter before Tuesday's series opener in Boston against the Red Sox, according to general manager Chris Young. It remains to be seen if Carter will be in the starting lineup at Fenway Park, but he has earned a promotion back to the big leagues for the first time in 2025 after heating up at the plate recently at Triple-A Round Rock. The 22-year-old left-handed-hitting outfielder hit .221/.333/.416 with three home runs, nine RBI, six steals and 13 runs scored in 21 games at Round Rock. Although Carter hit just .188 (27-for-144) with 43 K's, five homers and 15 RBI in 45 games in 2024 and has dealt with injuries, he could get a shot as Texas' primary center fielder against right-handed pitchers moving forward after the team recently cut Leody Taveras. In just 23 regular-season games his rookie year, Carter hit .306/.413/.645 with five homers and 12 RBI.

Tue Mar 2513:10Evan Carter Optioned To Triple-A
Texas Rangers outfielder Evan Carter did not make the Opening Day roster and is being optioned to Triple-A Round Rock. Carter made his MLB debut during the 2023 campaign and played a critical role during their World Series run. Across his first 23 games in the majors, Carter posted a strong .306/.413/.645 slash line with four doubles and five home runs. During the postseason, he continued to produce as he held a strong .300/.417/.500 line. However, in 2024, Carter dealt with a lingering back injury, which eventually cut his season short after just 45 contests. During spring training, Carter struggled as he posted an underwhelming .154/.214/.205 slash line. Fantasy managers should expect Carter to compete for an early return to the big leagues, especially if he finds his footing at the top level of the minor leagues. In Texas, Leody Taveras will likely see most of the opportunities in center field to start the season.

Fri Mar 2117:51Evan Carter, Leody Taveras Could Platoon In Center Field
Texas Rangers outfielders Evan Carter and Leody Taveras could start the year in a platoon in center field, according to MLB.com's Kennedi Landry. Neither player has hit lefties well, but Carter has really struggled, hitting .081/.150/.081 with three total hits against lefties in the big leagues since debuting late in the 2023 season. He has five strikeouts in seven at-bats against southpaws in spring training. The 22-year-old just hasn't had much exposure to high-leverage lefties in the big leagues in only 68 regular-season games played. He also played just 45 games in 2024 due to a back injury that the team is still managing. Carter expects to improve against lefties in time, but the Rangers might just continue avoid having him face them. Between recurring back issues and the fact that he won't play regularly, Carter's fantasy upside is limited in 2025.

Tue Mar 1812:25Evan Carter Trending Toward Making Opening Day Roster
The Dallas Morning News' Evan Grant writes that outfielder Evan Grant's stock is trending up of late as it pertains to potentially making the Opening Day roster out of camp. Grant adds that Carter has eased concerns about tentativeness in his swing during minor-league and Cactus League games this spring. While Leody Taveras may be winning the competition for the center field job, it appears that the 22-year-old should make the Opening Day roster as outfield depth for Texas to begin the year. Carter debuted in the majors late in the 2023 season and looked like a seasoned veteran on the way to helping the Ranger win the World Series that fall. However, the former second-rounder was limited to 45 games in 2024 and eventually needed surgery for a stress reaction in his lower back. He's now merely attempting to bounce back, and because of his struggles against lefties, a best-case scenario (at least early on) is a platoon role for the young outfielder.

Sat Mar 112:17Evan Carter Starting On Saturday
Texas Rangers outfielder Evan Carter (illness) is back in the starting nine on Saturday afternoon. Carter was unable to play on Friday due to an illness. However, seeing him return to the lineup quickly suggests his absence on Friday was precautionary. Carter flashed high upside as a rookie during the 2023 campaign, posting a .309/.413/.645 slash line with five home runs and three stolen bases. During their World Series run, Carter held a .300/.417/.500 line. However, Carter was limited to just 45 games last season and was eventually shut down due to a back injury. During his limited playing time, he was ineffective as he posted a mere .188 AVG. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status during camp as he should return to an everyday role in the Texas starting nine to begin the 2025 campaign.

Fri Feb 2812:27Evan Carter Scratched On Friday
Texas Rangers outfielder Evan Carter (illness) has been scratched from the starting lineup ahead of Friday's contest against the Chicago Cubs. Rangers' manager Bruce Bochy said Carter is dealing with an illness, but he expects him to be back in the lineup on Saturday. Kevin Pillar will take over his spot in center field and bat eighth during Friday's game. Carter is looking to bounce back this season after a rough 2024 campaign. The potential is there, so we'll see if Carter can capitalize on the opportunity this time around.

Sat Feb 2212:28Evan Carter Playing And Leading Off On Saturday
Texas Rangers outfielder Evan Carter (back) will cover center field and bat at the top of the order on Saturday afternoon when the Rangers face the San Francisco Giants. The 22-year-old was only able to play in 45 contests last season due to a lingering back injury. However, seeing Carter in the starting lineup in their first spring training contest is a positive sign. Across his brief 45-game stint last season, the outfielder posted a disappointing .188/.272/.361 line with five home runs and two stolen bases. However, during his rookie campaign in 2023, Carter posted a stellar .308/.413/.645 line in 23 contests. During their World Series run, Carter held a similar .300/.417/.500 line. When healthy, Carter will likely operate as a center fielder and bat in the top half of the lineup. However, he may be given occasional rest days during the season to ensure he is healthy, which could decrease his fantasy value.

Mon Feb 1721:26Rangers To Monitor Evan Carter Throughout The Season
The Dallas Morning News' Evan Grant writes that the Texas Rangers plan to monitor outfielder Evan Carter's (back) health throughout the 2025 season after he appeared in only 45 games in 2024 due to chronic back issues. "It's personal to me and we're going to keep it that way. I can't change it. It's a part of me now, but we've got a plan," Carter said. The 22-year-old left-handed hitter has had back inflammation each of the last two seasons and could be given regular rest days throughout the season. The Rangers' level of concern isn't very high in spring training, but fantasy managers should have plenty of reservations about his long-term health moving forward. Carter looked great in his big-league debut at the end of the 2023 season and while helping Texas win the World Series that fall, but last year was a lost season. In addition to injury concerns, Carter is going to need to figure out lefties to secure a full-time role.

Mon Feb 1015:18Evan Carter Could Hit Leadoff For Rangers
The Dallas Morning News' Evan Grant writes that outfielder Evan Carter (back) is a candidate to hit leadoff for the Texas Rangers in 2025. Second baseman Marcus Semien has been Texas' primary leadoff guy the last two seasons, but his on-base percentage took a big dip in 2024, and the team could bump him down the lineup more often this year. A back injury limited Carter to only 45 games in 2024, but he did post a .413 on-base percentage in his first 23 big-league games in 2023 before helping the Rangers win their first World Series that fall. However the 22-year-old might not even be ready for the start of the 2025 campaign as he works his way back from his back ailment. In addition, the young outfielder's struggles so far against left-handed pitching mean that if he does hit leadoff this year, it will likely only be against right-handers. RotoBaller ranks Carter as the No. 73 fantasy outfielder with spring training right around the corner.

Sun Jan 1915:05Corey Seager, Evan Carter Expected To Be Ready For Spring Training
According to Shawn McFarland of the Dallas Morning News, Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager (hip) and outfielder Evan Carter (back) are expected to be fully healthy heading into spring training. Seager underwent sports hernia surgery during the fall and has been able to perform baseball activities in December. Before cutting his season short, Seager held a strong .278/.353/.512 line with 30 home runs and 21 doubles. Carter was shut down last May due to a back injury. McFarland noted that the young outfielder played through this pain during the early part of the season. His injury hindered his performance as he held an underwhelming .188/.272/.361 line through 46 contests. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor their status during spring training, but seeing them progress at this stage of the offseason is a great sign. Both players are key components of the Texas lineup as they hope to return to the postseason in 2025.

Tue Nov 26 202414:16Evan Carter Swinging A Bat, Expected To Be Ready For Spring Training
Texas Rangers outfielder Evan Carter (back) has resumed swinging a bat this offseason, according to the team, and is expected to be ready for the start of spring training in mid-February without restrictions. It's excellent news for Carter, who was limited to only 45 games in 2024 due to back issues. The 22-year-old youngster eventually needed an ablation procedure in October to remove tissue from his back, but apparently he's recovered nicely and should be ready for Opening Day in 2025, barring a setback. The former second-round pick in 2020 burst onto the scene in 2023 and hit .306 (19-for-62) with five homers and 12 RBI in 23 regular-season games and was a lineup mainstay during the club's World Series run that fall. He went 27-for-144 (.188) with five homers and 15 RBI in 45 games in 2024 before being shut down. Carter is going to need to improve against lefties in 2025 to keep a regular role.

Fri Oct 11 202416:33Evan Carter Undergoes Ablation Procedure
Texas Rangers outfielder Evan Carter (back) underwent an ablation procedure on his back last week and has started a hitting progression. Carter managed to play in only 45 games in 2024 due to a lower-back stress reaction. The Rangers are hoping that his recent procedure will clear the way for the 22-year-old to put his back injury in the rearview mirror as he prepares for spring training early in 2025. If healthy next year, the former second-round selection in 2020 should have a big role in the Rangers' outfield, at least on the strong side of a platoon against right-handed pitching. In his 45 games (162 trips to the plate) this year, he slashed a weak .188/.272/.361 with five home runs, 15 RBI and 23 runs scored. However, with better health, could bounce back nicely and become a nice late-round value pick in fantasy drafts. We'll continue to keep an eye on his progress this offseason.

Tue Jul 30 202422:19Evan Carter Could Miss The Rest Of The Season
Texas Rangers outfielder Evan Carter (back) could miss the rest of the regular season, according to general manager Chris Young. Things have been pointing in this direction for Carter, and he was recently moved from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL, meaning that he won't be able to return until at least September. There may not be much to play for for the defending World Series champions by then. The 21-year-old left-handed-hitting outfielder has been on the shelf since late May with a lumbar sprain in his back and he recently had a setback, prompting the team to shut him down from baseball activities. Carter's extended absence late into the second half of the season should assure Leody Taveras of regular playing time to close out the year. Before getting hurt, Carter was disappointing with a .188/.272/.361 slash line with five homers in 144 at-bats in just his second year in the big leagues.

Mon Jul 29 202422:32Evan Carter Moved To 60-Day Injured List
In a flurry of roster moves on Monday, the Texas Rangers transferred outfielder Evan Carter (back) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day injured list. It has been a lost season for Carter, who has been on the shelf since May 28 with a lumbar sprain. The 21-year-old left-handed-hitting outfielder was shut down from baseball activities last Friday and is getting a second opinion on his troublesome back injury. Depending on what doctors say, there's a chance Carter won't return to the Rangers the rest of the season. The former second-rounder in 2020 made his big-league debut in 2023 and hit an impressive .306/.413/.645 with a 1.058 OPS, five homers and 12 RBI in 23 regular-season games before helping the Rangers win their first-ever World Series title. However, he went just .27-for-144 (.188) this year before his back woes cropped up, and his fantasy value has taken a nose dive in 2024. Carter is going to need to improve against lefties to secure regular starts whenever he returns.

Sat Jul 27 202400:04Evan Carter Shut Down, Going For Second Opinion
Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said before Friday's game against the hosting Toronto Blue Jays that outfielder Evan Carter (back) is seeing a back specialist in California for a second opinion. He's effectively shut down from all baseball activities until the Rangers get a report back to reassess Carter's condition and map out the next steps for his recovery. "He's just not quite coming along like we were hoping," Bochy said. Carter had rejoined the club around the All-Star break and ramped up activities, but his return timeline goes totally up in the air with this development. It's worth noting he missed time in the minor leagues with a stress fracture in his back in 2021, so Texas has been cautious with him. The 21-year-old top prospect is starting to lose steam as a stash candidate in redraft fantasy leagues. Veteran switch-hitter Robbie Grossman is batting .341 (15-for-44) with three home runs, six RBI, and 11 runs scored in his last 17 games.

Mon Jul 22 202422:04Evan Carter Set To Take Batting Practice Tuesday
Texas Rangers outfielder Evan Carter (back) has ramped up again after rejoining the big-league club around the All-Star break. Carter shagged fly balls on the field on Sunday and is scheduled to take batting practice on the field prior to Tuesday's game against the visiting Chicago White Sox. The 21-year-old top prospect is working his way back from an extended absence due to lower-back soreness, and while he's unlikely return to the Rangers before the end of July, he could get back into game action in the form of a minor-league rehab assignment within the next week or so if all goes well. Although Carter has been one of fantasy's biggest busts this year, batting 27-for-144 (.188) with five home runs, 15 RBI, 23 runs scored, and two stolen bases in 45 outings before getting injured, he still has five-category upside and an everyday role in left field to warrant being stashed in all leagues.

Thu Jul 4 202421:14Evan Carter Starting To Swing A Bat
Texas Rangers outfielder Evan Carter (back) has begun to swing a bat, per Texas skipper Bruce Bochy. Carter was placed on the 10-day injured list on May 28 with lower back tightness. Bochy also expressed that the 21-year-old should be expected to face live pitching in the coming days. This injury could have been bothering Carter much longer than fantasy managers could have expected as he struggled through the early part of the season. He held a poor .188/.272/.361 line with five home runs in 45 games. Carter will likely need a lengthy rehab assessment due to how long he has been sidelined. However, when he returns to big league action he should time primarily in left field, which could shift rookie Wyatt Langford to a designated hitter role.
