Tue Aug 1200:38Robert Suarez Locks Up 33rd Save Monday
San Diego Padres relief pitcher Robert Suarez picked up his 33rd save of the season in Monday's 4-1 win over the Giants. Suarez entered the game to pitch the bottom of the ninth inning up by three and delivered a 1-2-3 effort with no strikeouts. The 34-year-old leads baseball in saves and has a 3.22 ERA, a 1.01 WHIP, and a 9.12 K/9 rate in 50 1/3 innings of work. Despite his excellent numbers, things were shaken up at the trade deadline when the Padres acquired another strong closer in Mason Miller. The two have each seen two save opportunities in the last 15 days, and Miller pitched a scoreless eighth inning Monday, striking out the side. While it is unusual, it seems as though the Padres may be able to produce enough fantasy value for both pitchers while sharing save opportunities.

Sun Aug 321:14Robert Suarez Records 32nd Save
San Diego Padres relief pitcher Robert Suarez earned his 32nd save of the season in Sunday's 7-3 victory over the Cardinals. The Padres held a 7-0 lead entering the ninth before Adrian Morejon gave up four singles and a walk to make the game a save situation. This is the second save that Suarez has gotten since Mason Miller was dealt to San Diego at the trade deadline, which is a great sign for his fantasy value moving forward. Many assumed that the 34-year-old would lose the closing job to the young flamethrower whom the Padres gave up their best prospect for, but that doesn't seem to be the case. He definitely has a much shorter leash now with Miller waiting in line behind him, but Suarez is still worth starting in fantasy.

Thu Jul 3112:13Padres Don't Have Plans to Trade Robert Suarez
The San Diego Padres don't have plans to trade closer Robert Suarez at Thursday's deadline, even after just acquiring right-handed closer Mason Miller from the Athletics in a blockbuster deal on Thursday morning, according to USA TODAY Sports' Bob Nightengale. With both Miller and Suarez, the Padres will have the best bullpen in baseball. Additionally, Nightengale writes that the Friars could hang onto right-hander Dylan Cease despite landing left-hander JP Sears in the deal with Miller. The Padres are once again all-in. Suarez leads baseball with 30 saves but is coming off his fourth blown save of the year on Monday against the Mets. The 34-year-old hard-throwing righty also has a 3.43 ERA (2.51 FIP) and 1.01 WHIP in his 44 2/3 innings. If the Padres don't trade Suarez, he could end up being demoted to a setup role in front of Miller, which would kill a lot of his fantasy value the rest of 2025.

Tue Jul 2910:11Robert Suarez Records Fourth Blown Save
San Diego Padres closer Robert Suarez recorded his fourth blown save of the season on Monday night, allowing a solo home run to New York Mets infielder Ronny Mauricio that tied the score in the ninth inning. Luckily for both Suarez and the Padres, San Diego scored in the bottom of the ninth to win the game 7-6 in walk-off fashion, allowing Suarez to pick up his third win of 2025. For the season, Suarez has thrown 43 2/3 innings with a 3.50 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, 46 strikeouts, and 30 saves. His 26.6% strikeout rate is his highest since the 2022 season. Suarez has been the undisputed closer in San Diego for each of the last two seasons and still has strong numbers overall, so this blown save is unlikely to knock him out of the ninth inning.

Wed Jul 2323:28Robert Suarez a Potential Trade Chip for Padres
With the July 31 deadline nearing, the San Diego Padres could use closer Robert Suarez as a trade chip to improve other aspects of their roster, Jeff Passan of ESPN reports. Suarez would be a significant in-season loss for the Padres' bullpen, as the 34-year-old right-hander leads the majors in saves (29) and is coming off his second straight All-Star nod. While Suarez had a rough June, allowing nine earned runs on 14 hits in 10 1/3 innings, he has bounced back well in July. He has put together six straight scoreless appearances to lower his ERA to 3.46 with a 1.03 WHIP and 44:12 K:BB over 41 2/3 frames. That type of production would be difficult to replace. However, even without Suarez, the Padres would still have other capable late-game options in Jason Adam, Adrian Morejon, and Jeremiah Estrada. Furthermore, it may appeal to San Diego to cash in Suarez now before a potential offseason exit in free agency. Suarez is highly likely to decline a two-year, $16 million player option after the season and test the open market.

Fri Jul 1100:52Robert Suarez Notches League-Leading 27th Save
San Diego Padres closer Robert Suarez worked a perfect ninth inning in his team's 4-3 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday to record his MLB-best 27th save of the season. The veteran right-hander struggled to a 7.84 ERA in 10 1/3 innings in June, but he's bounced back to convert all four of his save chances so far in July. For the season, Suarez has thrown 39 2/3 innings with a 3.63 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, and 42 strikeouts. The Padres have a deep bullpen, but manager Mike Shildt has shown a preference for sticking with Suarez even when occasional struggles arise.

Wed Jul 900:34Robert Suarez Picks Up Save No. 26 Tuesday
San Diego Padres closer Robert Suarez looked sharp as he picked up his 26th save of the season in Tuesday's 1-0 win over the Diamondbacks. Suarez came in to pitch the top of the ninth inning up by one and shut the door with a 1-2-3 performance, including a strikeout. The 34-year-old has not been as sharp as he was in his breakout 2024 season, but he has converted all but three save opportunities with a 3.72 ERA, a 1.09 WHIP, and a 9.54 K/9 rate in 38 2/3 innings of work. He has allowed much harder contact this season than last season, but he should continue to get plenty of opportunities to provide fantasy value.

Wed Jul 223:29Robert Suarez Earns Save in Shaky Outing
San Diego Padres closer Robert Suarez shut the door on the Philadelphia Phillies in a 6-4 win during the first game of a doubleheader on Wednesday. It wasn't easy for Suarez, who had to extinguish a Phillies rally for his 24th save of the season. The right-hander entered a 6-3 game in the bottom of the ninth and allowed one run on three singles before striking out Kyle Schwarber to end it with runners on second and third. The 34-year-old has given up at least one earned run in back-to-back games and has totaled just three scoreless appearances in his past eight outings. He had an outstanding 1.78 ERA before that stretch, but the number has soared to 4.04 over 35 2/3 innings. Suarez still owns a solid 37:12 K:BB and a 1.15 WHIP, while he's tied for the second-most saves in the majors.

Sun Jun 2923:28Robert Suarez Blows Save, Takes Loss on Sunday
San Diego Padres closer Robert Suarez came on in a save situation Sunday and ended up taking the loss in a 3-2 final against the Cincinnati Reds. Suarez entered the ninth with a 2-1 lead and allowed four singles, a walk, and two runs while retiring just one hitter. Reds outfielder Will Benson lined a walk-off single to right field to give Suarez his fourth blown save and send him to 2-3 on the season. Suarez is tied for the league lead with 23 saves and has registered a 1.10 WHIP with 36 strikeouts against 12 walks. However, a handful of poor performances have led to a so-so 3.89 ERA in 34 2/3 innings. The 34-year-old will be glad when June ends, as he has been tattooed for nine earned runs on 14 hits over 10 1/3 frames this month.

Sat Jun 2822:19Robert Suarez Earns League-Leading 23rd Save
San Diego Padres closer Robert Suarez worked into and out of trouble Saturday to pick up his league-best 23rd save in a 6-4 win over the Cincinnati Reds. Suarez put two runners on with walks, but he retired the other three hitters he faced in a 22-pitch ninth inning. The hard-throwing 34-year-old logged two strikeouts, including a punchout of Spencer Steer to end the game. Suarez lowered his ERA to 3.41 with a 0.96 WHIP and 36:11 K:BB over 34 1/3 innings. Along the way, Suarez has blown just two of his 25 save attempts - good for a 92% success rate.

Wed Jun 2514:04Robert Suarez's Suspension Reduced to Two Games
San Diego Padres closer Robert Suarez will drop his appeal after his suspension for hitting Los Angeles Dodgers two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani was reduced to two games, league sources tell The Athletic's Dennis Lin. Suarez initially received a three-game suspension and an undisclosed fine from MLB last Friday after he was ejected on Thursday night for hitting Ohtani in the right shoulder in a game that featured a benches-clearing incident. The hard-throwing 34-year-old picked up his 22nd save of the season in the 4-3 win over the Washington Nationals on Tuesday night, but he could begin serving his two-game suspension in Wednesday's series finale. San Diego has Thursday off before traveling to Cincinnati to face the Reds in a three-game series that starts on Friday. If a save situation arises for the Friars with Suarez out, it could be lefty Adrian Morejon who gets the nod.

Wed Jun 2500:24Robert Suarez Earns 22nd Save Of Season Tuesday
San Diego Padres closer Robert Suarez continued his solid season in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Nationals, picking up his 22nd save. Suarez came in to pitch the top of the ninth inning up by one and shut things down with a 1-2-3 outing, ending the game with a strikeout. The 34-year-old racked up 36 saves last season and is currently tied with the most saves this season. He has a 3.51 ERA, a 0.93 WHIP, and a 9.18 K/9 rate in 33 1/3 innings of work. Suarez may not be the most exciting closer in baseball, but he offers a very high floor from a fantasy perspective and has been rock solid since the beginning of the 2024 season.

Sun Jun 2223:19Robert Suarez Picks Up Win on Sunday
San Diego Padres closer Robert Suarez (2-3) threw a scoreless ninth inning Sunday to collect his second win in a 3-2 game against the Kansas City Royals. The right-hander entered a 2-2 tie and retired the first two batters he faced before running into trouble. Suarez walked Drew Waters and then allowed a double to Freddy Fermin, but his defense bailed him out. Waters was thrown out at home on a well-executed relay while trying to score on Fermin's hit. The Padres then walked off the Royals on a Jose Iglesias fielder's choice in the bottom of the ninth. Although he was hardly dominant, Suarez ended a streak of three straight appearances allowing at least one run. He gave up a ghastly seven earned runs and combined for just one inning in that brutal stretch. For the most part, the 34-year-old has performed well this season. He owns a 3.62 ERA with 33:9 K:BB over 32 1/3 frames and has converted 21 of 23 save opportunities.

Fri Jun 2021:34Robert Suarez, Dave Roberts, and Mike Shildt Get Suspended
San Diego Padres relief pitcher Robert Suarez and the team's manager Mike Shildt have been suspended for their actions during Thursday's contest. The league has also suspended the Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts as well. Suarez gets slapped with a three-game suspension after almost certainly hitting slugger Shohei Ohtani on purpose. This happened after Padres' slugger Fernando Tatis Jr. was hit in the hand by a pitch earlier in the game. Suarez will appeal his suspension, but both managers will be suspended one game and cannot appeal it.

Sun Jun 1508:46Robert Suarez Crumbles in Ninth Inning
San Diego Padres relief pitcher Ranger Suarez was called upon to protect a four-run lead against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday. The normally reliable closer was hit around in this non-save situation. He gave up three straight hits before finally striking out Corbin Carroll to record the first out. After that, Suarez gave up a hit to Ketel Marte and a game-tying triple to Geraldo Perdomo. Suarez was removed from the game and left-hander Adrian Morejon allowed an inherited runner to score and give Suarez the loss. This was an awful performance that inflated Suarez to a 3.23 ERA on the season. Despite this disaster, Suarez has been reliable, converting 21-of-23 save chances. Fantasy managers should keep riding with him despite the ugly outing.

Sat May 3108:51Robert Suarez Strikes Out Three, Notches 18th Save
San Diego Padres closer Robert Suarez picked up his league-leading 18th save of the year on Friday, securing the team's 3-2 victoryover the Pirates. Suarez came on in the eighth inning after Jason Adam allowed a double and two walks to load the bases, but Suarez struck out Henry Davis to end the threat. The righty then pitched a 1-2-3 ninth, striking out two additional batters in the process. The 34-year-old has allowed six earned runs all season, five of which came in a single game against the Angels back on May 12, so he hasn't allowed any runs in 23 of his 25 appearances, posting a 2.22 ERA, 0.82 WHIP, and a 20.0 percent K-BB%. With the Padres being one of the top teams in the National League, Suarez should continue to get plentyof opportunities to rack up additional saves.

Tue May 608:26Robert Suarez Secures Another Save For San Diego
San Diego Padres relief pitcher Robert Suarez closed out the Padres' wild comeback win at a soggy Yankee Stadium on Monday night. After the Yankees' bullpen faltered in the eighth, giving up four runs, Suarez slammed the door with a perfect ninth inning. He struck out Anthony Volpe to start the inning and Jasson Dominguez to end the contest, earning his 14th save of the season. He has more saves than any other pitcher in Major League Baseball and has given up just one run in 16 innings this season while racking up 18 strikeouts and allowing just five hits and four walks. He'll continue to be an elite closer for the Padres as they continue their road trip with two more games in the Bronx before heading to Colorado for three games this weekend.

Thu Apr 1708:25Robert Suarez Reclaims MLB Lead In Saves
San Diego Padres relief pitcher Robert Suarez earned his MLB-leading eighth save of the season on Wednesday night against the Cubs to secure the series win over Chicago. Suarez retired the side in order on just eight pitches, preserving a 4-2 victory. Suarez has been absolutely dominant this season, allowing just three hits and two walks across nine scoreless innings. He has 10 strikeouts in nine games and has converted each of his eight save opportunities. The Padres lead the MLB with 15 wins, and Suarez is one of many things that have gone right for them. The 34-year-old righty remains one of the elite closers in baseball right now.

Thu Apr 1008:13Robert Suarez Still Stacking Saves For San Diego
San Diego Padres relief pitcher Robert Suarez secured his sixth save of the season on Wednesday afternoon in Sacramento. He became the first closer in the MLB to reach that level this season with a highly efficient seven-pitch inning against the Athletics in his team's 2-1 victory. He walked Tyler Soderstrom on five pitches to start the inning but got Shea Langeliers to bounce into a double play and JJ Bleday to fly out to center to end the game on his next two pitches. Suarez has converted every one of his six save opportunities while allowing just two walks and no hits over six shutout innings. He has seven strikeouts in those six innings as well and has emerged as one of the elite closers in the game over the first few weeks of the season.

Tue Apr 809:34Robert Suarez Earns League-Leading Fifth Save
San Diego Padres relief pitcher Robert Suarez secured his league-leading fifth save of the year in the Padres' 5-4 win over the Athletics at Sutter Health Park on Monday night. San Diego got off to a fast start with three runs in the first inning, but Suarez entered in the ninth with just a one-run lead. The 34-year-old righty had no issues, though, retiring the side in order with a strikeout of Lawrence Butler along the way. He is a perfect 5-for-5 in save opportunities this season, facing just two batters over the minimum and racking up seven strikeouts. The Padres improved to 9-2 with the win, and Suarez has taken advantage of the team's success to rack up five saves through just 11 games. He only needed nine pitches on Monday, so he should be fresh and ready to roll for San Diego's next save opportunity.
