Thu Jun 1901:28Maikel Garcia Powers Royals with Massive Performance
Kansas City Royals third baseman Maikel Garcia went 3-for-4 with a three-run home run in his team's 6-3 win against the Texas Rangers. He also singled, scored twice, and knocked in another RBI with a triple. The 25-year-old mashed his eighth home run of the season in the top of the third inning to give Kansas City a 4-2 lead, and one they'd hold the rest of the contest. Garcia nearly had a fourth hit, but flew out on a ball with a .630 xBA off the bat. It's been a stellar few months for him, slashing a strong .318/.377/.500 through 72 contests. The Venezuelan native has dropped his strikeout percentage to a personal best 13.8% and is impacting the ball at some of the best rates in his career with an 85th percentile xBA (.285).

Fri Jun 623:32Maikel Garcia Homers in Loss to White Sox
Kansas City Royals third baseman Maikel Garcia homered for the second straight game Friday in the team's 7-2 loss to the Chicago White Sox. Garcia's 408-foot solo blast against right-hander Davis Martin was his lone hit in a 1-for-4 night. With seven home runs in 62 contests this season, the 25-year-old has already matched his 2024 total in 95 fewer games. This is continuing to look like a breakout year for Garcia, who's slashing .310/.373/.487 with 30 RBI, 13 stolen bases, and a 9.1% walk rate in 253 plate appearances. He'll face off against White Sox righty Adrian Houser on Saturday.

Fri Jun 602:27Maikel Garcia Has Fantastic All-Around Performance on Thursday
Kansas City Royals third baseman/utility man Maikel Garcia had a monster game in the second half of the team's doubleheader against the St. Louis Cardinals, going 2-for-3 with a homer, a double, two walks, three runs scored, two RBI, and two steals. Garcia did it all in this one and was a big reason why the Royals pulled out a 7-5 victory. It has been a tremendous season for the 25-year-old so far, who appears to be putting his tools together and breaking out. He now has a .311 AVG and .852 OPS to go with 28 runs, six homers, 29 RBI, and 13 swipes in 222 at-bats. With an everyday job secured, Garcia could be a very valuable five-category contributor in fantasy. He should be rostered everywhere at this point.

Tue Jun 319:15Maikel Garcia Returns to Lineup on Tuesday
Kansas City Royals third baseman Maikel Garcia (thumb) is back at third base and is hitting third for the Royals in Tuesday's contest against the St. Louis Cardinals and right-hander Andre Pallante at Busch Stadium. Garcia will return to action after being scratched from Sunday's lineup in the series finale against the Detroit Tigers, but he's back in there after a travel day on Monday. He gets a matchup against Pallante, who he is hitting .222 against in just nine career at-bats. The 25-year-old Venezuelan has been swinging a hot bat this year for the Royals as their regular third baseman, slashing .316/.378/.474 with an .851 OPS, five home runs, 25 RBI, 24 runs scored and 10 stolen bases in 209 at-bats. His lack of power doesn't make him a high-end fantasy third baseman, but he's useful as corner-infield depth in deeper leagues. Garcia snapped 14-game hitting streak with an 0-for-3 performance on Saturday.

Sun Jun 114:03Maikel Garcia Scratched with Right-Thumb Soreness
Kansas City Royals infielder Maikel Garcia (thumb) was scratched from Sunday's contest due to right thumb soreness. Fantasy managers should monitor his status leading up to their next contest on Tuesday against the St. Louis Cardinals. Garcia has enjoyed an impressive start to the season. Through 58 games, the 25-year-old has held a stellar .316/.378/.474 slash line with 14 doubles, two triples, five home runs, and 10 stolen bases. He has shown a strong eye at the plate with a 15.3% whiff rate and a 15.4% strikeout rate, both of which are well above the average marks. This afternoon, Jonathan India will enter the starting nine as he was initially set to have the day off. However, Nick Loftin will shift to the hot corner to cover for Garcia. The Royals will face Detroit right-hander Keider Montero, who carries a 4.54 ERA.

Tue May 607:54Maikel Garcia Swipes Two Bags On Monday
Kansas City Royals third baseman Maikel Garcia went 1-for-2 with two walks, an RBI, a run scored, and two stolen bases to help the Royals run past the White Sox, 3-0. Garcia is up to nine stolen bases in 14 attempts this season while hitting .322 with nine doubles, four home runs, and a .388 wOBA. Garcia has a 52.9% hard-hit rate that supports his early-season power and production, and he has been one of the few consistent contributors in Kansas City's lineup. His speed is a huge fantasy asset and if he keeps hitting the ball so well, he'll continue to be a strong mixed-league option at the hot corner. The 25-year-old is a great waiver wire pickup if available as he continues his very productive start to the season.

Sun May 418:31Maikel Garcia Homers Twice In Victory
Kansas City Royals infielder Maikel Garcia isn't known for his power, but showed some over the fence pop during Sunday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. Garcia took right-hander Kyle Gibson deep in the second inning. He would later homer again, but this time off reliever Bryan Baker in the sixth inning. Garcia would finish his day 3-for-5 with two solo homers and two RBI in the win. After this game, Garcia is slashing .319/.379/.496 with four long balls, 14 RBI, and seven steals. Garcia is quickly picking up steam in fantasy leagues and is someone worth monitoring in most 12-team formats.

Fri May 205:28Maikel Garcia Steals Three Bases Thursday
Kansas City Royals third baseman Maikel Garcia had a big game in an 8-2 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday. Garcia went 3-for-5 with a double, a run, an RBI, and three stolen bases to help propel the Royals to the win. The veteran infielder was a terror on the basepaths in the win, bringing his season total to seven stolen bases, to go along with a .296 average, nine doubles, two homers, 12 runs, and 11 RBI across 108 at-bats. After stealing 37 bases in 2024, Garcia has proven his fantasy value as one of the top base-stealers in the American League.

Mon Apr 714:30Maikel Garcia Off To A Hot Start In 2025
Kansas City Royals third baseman Maikel Garcia is off to a fantastic start in 2025. On Sunday against the Baltimore Orioles, he went 2-for-4 with a run scored. So far in the young season, he has a slash line of .345/.387/.444 with two home runs, five runs scored, six RBI, and one stolen base. Over the past two seasons, Garcia has swiped 60 bases, so look for him to stay aggressive on the basepaths as the season goes on. Right now, Garcia is batting eighth in the order but has batted leadoff for the Royals in the past, and after this hot start, it would only increase his fantasy value if the Royals decide to move him up in the order. Up next for Garcia is a four-game series against the Minnesota Twins, where he will look to continue his hot start.

Thu Mar 2712:20Maikel Garcia Not In Opening Day Lineup
Kansas City Royals third baseman Maikel Garcia is not in the team's Opening Day lineup on Thursday at Kauffman Stadium against the division-rival Cleveland Guardians and right-hander Ben Lively. Vinnie Pasquantino (hamstring) will serve as the designated hitter, while Michael Massey is at second base and Jonathan India mans the hot corner. The Royals are easing Pasquantino into the lineup as the DH to protect him after he suffered a Grade 1-plus hamstring strain last Saturday in spring training. When Pasquantino is healthy enough to return to first base duties, we should see the 25-year-old Garcia return as the regular third baseman for KC. The Venezuelan infielder had a career-high 37 steals in 157 games last year but underwhelmed with his bat (.231 average, seven home runs) and will most likely hit in the bottom third of the batting order this year with India in town.

Sun Mar 208:20Maikel Garcia Will See Time In Center Field
Kansas City Royals infielder Maikel Garcia will see time in center field during spring training. In the offseason, the Royals acquired Jonathan India from the Cincinnati Reds, which added another bat to their infield. General manager J.J. Picollo noted that the way the team is currently set up, Garcia's "next best spot" is to shift to center field. As a result, this suggests that the team is considering giving Michael Massey the starting nod at second base. Garcia has only seen one start in the outfield throughout his MLB career. However, given the crowded infield, his best option to find consistent playing time may be shifting to the outfield. Last season, Garcia made 157 starts and held a .231/.284/.332 line with 27 doubles and 37 stolen bases. If the 24-year-old were to adjust well to center field in camp, he could push Kyle Isbel to a depth role.

Sat Feb 2212:55Maikel Garcia Leading Off On Saturday
Kansas City Royals third baseman Maikel Garcia is batting in the leadoff spot on Saturday afternoon when the Royals face the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 24-year-old underwent an offseason surgery to remove bone spurs from his right elbow. However, seeing Garcia already in spring training action suggests his recovery process was not serious, and he will not face any limitations. Last season, the infielder posted a career-low .231/.281/.332 line with seven home runs and 37 stolen bases. However, he did generate a strong .260 xBA, which suggests that he should see some positive regression in 2025. Garcia typically was placed in the leadoff spot last season, but with Jonathan India now on the roster, Garcia may have to earn this spot in spring training. If he does continue to bat in this spot, he could be a strong contributor for runs, batting in front of Bobby Witt Jr. and Salvador Perez.

Fri Dec 6 202414:12Maikel Garcia Undergoes Minor Elbow Surgery
Kansas City Royals infielder Maikel Garcia (elbow) underwent a minor procedure to remove bone chips in his right elbow on Thursday. Garcia reported elbow soreness to the Royals after playing catch at home the week before Thanksgiving, which prompted the team to send him for an MRI exam, in which bone chips were found. Garcia is expected to be ready for spring training in February and is expected to return as the team's primary third baseman in 2025 after hitting .231/.281/.332 in 2024 with 27 doubles and 37 stolen bases. In addition to his 27 doubles and 37 stolen bases for the Royals in a career-high 157 games in his third year in the big leagues, the Venezuelan infielder hit a career-high seven home runs, drove in 58 runs and scored 84 runs in 626 plate appearances. The 24-year-old doesn't have typical home run power for a third baseman, but the speed is nice for a corner-infield target in fantasy.

Tue Oct 8 202400:26Maikel Garcia Collects Four Hits, Steal In ALDS Game 2 Win
Kansas City Royals third baseman Maikel Garcia acted as an offensive catalyst in Monday's American League Division Series Game 2 4-2 win over the Yankees. Batting in the leadoff spot, Garcia went 4-for-5 with four singles, an RBI, and a strikeout. He also stole his third base of the playoffs. The 24-year-old mostly provided speed in the regular season, slashing .231/.281/.332 with seven home runs, 84 runs scored, 58 RBI, and 37 stolen bases in 626 plate appearances. However, he has provided speed and batting average this postseason, batting .400 in 15 at-bats. The Royals have scored the third-most runs so far in the playoffs, so Garcia offers exposure to that production while hitting at the top of their lineup for DFS leagues.

Wed Aug 28 202412:14Maikel Garcia Taking A Seat In Series Finale
Kansas City Royals third baseman Maikel Garcia is not in the starting lineup in Wednesday's series finale against the division-rival Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field. Paul DeJong will get the start at the hot corner and will bat sixth against Guardians right-hander Tanner Bibee. Garcia will head to the bench after starting each of the team's last five games while going 6-for-19 with a homer, double and two stolen bases. The 24-year-old's playing time against right-handers has dwindled some in the second half of the season, though, since the acquisition of DeJong. Garcia is hitting .239/.287/.347 on the year with seven home runs, 52 RBI and a career-high 32 stolen bases in 129 games in his second full year in the big leagues. He's obviously been useful in all fantasy leagues for his speed, but he also isn't guaranteed a starting spot anymore when the team faces a righty.

Mon Aug 19 202419:42Maikel Garcia Out Against Angels
Kansas City Royals third baseman Maikel Garcia and outfielder Hunter Renfroe are both on the bench for Monday's tilt against the Los Angeles Angels at Kauffman Stadium. Paul DeJong is starting at the hot corner for the Royals and batting eighth, while Adam Frazier will get the start in right field and hit seventh against Angels right-hander Carson Fulmer. Garcia has given way to the veteran DeJong a bit more of late at third base in Kansas City. Perhaps it's because he's only hitting .236 (13-for-55) in 14 games in the month of August with no home runs. The Venezuelan infielder has been relevant in all fantasy leagues in 2024 because of his 30 stolen bases. Renfroe finally showed some signs of life at the plate over the weekend after recently going hitless in 24 straight plate appearances with nine strikeouts in six games.

Fri Aug 16 202416:04Maikel Garcia Sitting On Friday
Kansas City Royals third baseman Maikel Garcia will take another day off on Friday for the series finale against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park. It's the second straight game sitting the bench for Garcia, with a scheduled day off on Thursday in between. It's the first time all season that he has sat in two straight games, so be on the lookout for a potential injury for Garcia. Veteran Paul DeJong is starting at the hot corner and is batting sixth for KC on Friday against Reds right-hander Nick Martinez. Garcia has been disappointing at the plate so far in August, going 10-for-45 (.222) with no homers, three doubles, three RBI and nine strikeouts in 12 games, so perhaps the Royals just want to get DeJong more playing time. DeJong, meanwhile, has gone 8-for-25 (.320) with two homers and five RBI in his first 10 games for the Royals after being acquired from the White Sox at the trade deadline.

Sat Aug 3 202416:39Maikel Garcia Out Of Lineup Saturday Night, Michael Lorenzen Debuts For Royals
Kansas City Royals third baseman Maikel Garcia will head to the bench Saturday night for the Royals debut of Michael Lorenzen against the Detroit Tigers. He will be replaced in the lineup by the recently acquired Paul DeJong, who will bat seventh in and play third base in Garcia's place. Garcia is hitting .237 with six home runs, 45 RBI, 27 stolen bases and 69 runs scored in 467 plate appearances. It's a rare day off for a guy who leads the league in games played with 108. This seems to be a day of rest for Garcia, who should be back in the lineup tomorrow for the series finale.

Fri Aug 2 202408:10Maikel Garcia Swipes Two More Bags
Kansas City Royals infielder Maikel Garcia showed off his speed in Thursday's big victory against the division rival Detroit Tigers. Garcia was 1-for-5 in the contest with a single, run scored and two stolen bases on the day. The 24-year-old has had a full-time role this season for the Royals, mainly leading off and is hitting .237 with six homers, 45 RBI and 27 stolen bases. Garcia was a popular sleeper entering this season and even with his ups and downs at the dish, his speed on the basepaths have made him a valuable member in deeper leagues. Garcia is worth rostering in deeper leagues, but those in daily leagues may want to sit him on Friday with a matchup versus Cy Young candidate Tarik Skubal.

Fri Jul 26 202418:28Maikel Garcia Resting On Friday
Kansas City Royals infielder Maikel Garcia is out of the starting lineup ahead of Friday's game against the Chicago Cubs. Fantasy managers shouldn't worry as this appears to be a routine rest day for Garcia. In his absence, Nick Loftin will cover third base and bat seventh versus right-hander Kyle Hendricks on Friday. This is a favorable matchup for Loftin but he doesn't offer great upside with the bat. Fantasy managers should be able to find better production elsewhere.
