Mon May 1221:52Ezequiel Tovar Begins Rehab Assignment
Colorado Rockies shortstop Ezequiel Tovar (hip) started a minor league rehab assignment over the weekend. He made starts at shortstop on both Saturday and Sunday, so he continues to progress towards a return. The organization is hopeful that Tovar can return soon, but he'll need to be re-evaluated in a few days. Tovar has been sidelined since April 19 due to a left hip contusion, but is slowly making his way back. Fantasy managers should continue to hold Tovar as he should be back in the Rockies lineup within the next week. That will likely mean that Adael Amador gets sent back to the minors, but we'll wait and see what happens.

Wed May 719:16Ezequiel Tovar Takes Grounders, Hits On Field On Wednesday
Colorado Rockies shortstop Ezequiel Tovar (hip) took ground balls and hit on the field at Coors Field on Wednesday before the team's contest against the visiting Detroit Tigers. After progressing slowly from his left-hip contusion, Tovar is now doing baseball activities on the field and appears to be making progress. A short minor-league rehab assignment could be on tap soon, so it's possible that the 27-year-old infielder will be ready to return to the big-league roster by mid-May. Until that happens, the Rockies will continue to move forward with a combination of Kyle Farmer and Alan Trejo manning the shortstop position in Denver. Tovar is one of the last-place Rockies' better players, but the Venezuelan infielder was hitting just .212/.257/.303 with a rough .560 OPS and no home runs in his first 66 at-bats for the team before injuring his hip.

Mon Apr 2819:13Ezequiel Tovar Not Progressing Well
Colorado Rockies infielder Ezequiel Tovar (hip) is "not progressing as we'd hoped," according to manager Bud Black. Tovar has been sidelined due to a left hip contusion and is still struggling to field ground balls. Patrick Lyons of JustBBMedia noted that the infielder may still be at least 10 days from returning. Through his first 17 games of the season, Tovar has held a modest .212/.257/.303 slash line with four doubles, one home run, and two stolen bases. However, under the hood, the 23-year-old has generated a strong .266 xBA with a 91.2 mph average exit velocity, which suggests the infielder should see positive regression when he returns to action. While Tovar is sidelined, Kyle Farmer should continue to see most opportunities at shortstop.

Sat Apr 2614:42Ezequiel Tovar Still A Week Or So Away From Return From IL
Colorado Rockies shortstop Ezequiel Tovar (hip) is still at least a week away from returning from the injured list according to manager Bud Black. Aaron Schunk had been filling in as of late for the injured Tovar, but has now been placed on the IL as well. Kyle Farmer will man shortstop in Saturday's game against the Reds, but has not recorded a hit in his last 17 at-bats. So, needless to say, the 4-21 Rockies will hope to get Tovar back as soon as possible to hopefully breathe some life into the offense, although he was struggling to begin the year, slashing .212/.257/.303 with no home runs, a .251 wOBA, and 44 wRC+. In contrast, Tovar put together a .269-26-78-83-6 line last season with a .324 wOBA and 95 wRC+.

Wed Apr 2315:10Ezequiel Tovar Could Be Battling Hip Injury All Year
Colorado Rockies manager Bud Black said that shortstop Ezequiel Tovar (hip), who did not make the trip with the team this week to Kansas City to face the Royals, will likely be out beyond his 10-day window on the injured list and will have to play through some discomfort the rest of the season. Tovar landed on the IL on April 19 (retroactive to April 16) with a left-hip contusion, and his return is to be determined. The 23-year-old was initially scratched from the lineup last Wednesday against the Los Angeles Dodgers and may not return until early May now. In his absence, Kyle Farmer has become a lineup regular for the banged-up Rockies. He hasn't cleared the fences yet but has hit well to the tune of a .284 average (19-for-67) with six RBI and two runs scored. It's fair to wonder if Tovar will be able to bounce back from a slow start that has seen him go 14-for-66 (.212) with no homers, four RBI and two steals in 16 games.

Sat Apr 1913:38Ezequiel Tovar Placed On 10-Day Injured List
Colorado Rockies infielder Ezequiel Tovar (hip) was placed on the 10-day injured list due to a left hip contusion. This transaction was retroactive to April 16. Through the first 16 games of the season, Tovar has posted a .212/.257/.303 slash line with four doubles, one triple, and two stolen bases through the first 16 games of the regular season. The 23-year-old has been held out of the starting lineup since Wednesday and was considered day-to-day. However, with Tovar now on the injured list, fantasy managers should expect him to miss at least the next week of action. In a corresponding move, the Rockies promoted infielder Aaron Schunk to the major league roster. He will also get the starting nod on Sunday and bat in the nine hole. While Tovar is out, Schunk and Kyle Farmer should share time at shortstop.

Wed Apr 1621:38Ezequiel Tovar Scratched On Wednesday
Colorado Rockies shortstop Ezequiel Tovar (hip) has been scratched from the starting lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. It sounds like the Rockies are taking the cautious approach and pulling Tovar out of the lineup due to left hip pain. For now, fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day, but the Rockies should give another update on his status shortly. In the meantime, Kyle Farmer will cover shortstop and bat cleanup versus right-hander Bobby Miller. The veteran utility man has been one of the few bright spots in this Colorado lineup early in the season.

Fri Apr 1118:28Ezequiel Tovar Returns On Friday
Colorado Rockies shortstop Ezequiel Tovar (hip) is back at shortstop and is hitting third in the batting order for Friday's series opener against the division-rival San Diego Padres and right-hander Nick Pivetta at Petco Park. A minor hip injury kept Tovar out of Thursday's series finale in Colorado against the Milwaukee Brewers, but he'll return for the start of a weekend series in America's finest city. The 23-year-old will be hoping to keep up his strong start in 2025, as he'll enter Friday's contest with a .277/.306/.404 slash line, four doubles, one triple, four RBI, two stolen bases, four runs scored, two walks and 10 strikeouts in 11 games played. He has only faced Pivetta four times in his career, but he's homered against him and has driven in two runs. Return Tovar to your starting fantasy lineups on Friday evening.

Thu Apr 1014:19Ezequiel Tovar Sitting With Hip Injury
Colorado Rockies shortstop Ezequiel Tovar (hip) is not in Thursday's starting lineup due to a hip injury. Tovar has been dealing with this injury for some time and will get the day off. He will look to return to action on Friday evening against the San Diego Padres. Instead, Kyle Farmer will get the nod at shortstop and bat in the three-hole. Through the first 11 games of the season, Tovar has held a .277/.306/.404 slash line with four doubles and two stolen bases. He has scored four runs and added four RBI. He enjoyed a breakout campaign last summer as he launched 26 long balls, swiped six bags, and held a .269/.295/.469 slash line. When healthy, Tovar should continue to see everyday opportunities in the Colorado starting nine. Farmer is worth a look as a value play in DFS facing right-handed pitcher Quinn Priester.

Thu Apr 1012:51Ezequiel Tovar, Kris Bryant Resting Against Brewers
After a 17-2 drubbing on Wednesday night by the Milwaukee Brewers, Colorado Rockies shortstop Ezequiel Tovar and designated hitter Kris Bryant will get the day off for Thursday's series finale at Coors Field. Catcher Hunter Goodman is also getting the day off. Kyle Farmer will start at short and bat third, Nick Martini will serve as the DH and hit fifth, and Jacob Stalling will do the catching and bat in the nine-hole against Brewers right-hander Quinn Priester. Stallings is the only one of the replacements that has faced Priester in his career, and he has one hit in just two at-bats. This will be Tovar's first day off of the 2025 season. He's started the year by going 13-for-47 (.277) but has yet to go deep in 49 plate appearances. Bryant, a former MVP back in 2016, has stayed healthy, but he's gone just 6-for-31 with no homers, two walks and 10 strikeouts in eight games played.

Fri Apr 410:04Ezequiel Tovar Off To A Slow Start In 2025
Colorado Rockies shortstop Ezequiel Tovar is off to a slow start this season. He holds a .125/.125/.167 line with only one RBI and one extra-base thus far in 24 plate appearances. The only silver lining is that he is striking out at a 16.7 percent clip, which is better than his 27.7 percent career strikeout rate. It's still early in the season, and the Rockies have yet to play a game at Coors Field, but it's not necessarily the start that Tovar, or fantasy managers, were hoping for to start the 2025 season. Look for Tovar to get right this weekend as the Rockies head home to Coors Field to start a three-game series against the Athletics.

Fri Mar 716:49Ezequiel Tovar Back In Friday's Spring Lineup
Colorado Rockies shortstop Ezequiel Tovar (triceps) is back in the Cactus League lineup on Friday to face the Texas Rangers and right-hander Jacob deGrom. Tovar is starting at shortstop and batting second in the lineup after he was removed early on Wednesday as a precaution after being hit by a pitch on his left triceps. The injury was obviously a minor one for the 23-year-old, who has gone 4-for-17 so far in spring training action with three doubles. The 23-year-old Venezuelan infielder had a league-high 655 at-bats and 45 doubles in 2024 in his second full season in the big leagues while also slashing .269/.295/.469 with a .763 OPS, 26 home runs, 78 RBI, six stolen bases and 83 runs scored in 157 games played. Tovar calls one of the most hitter-friendly ballparks in the sport as his home, but his lack of patience limits his fantasy upside at a premier position.

Wed Mar 518:30Ezequiel Tovar Leaves After Getting Hit By Pitch
Colorado Rockies shortstop Ezequiel Tovar (triceps) left Wednesday's Cactus League game versus the division-rival San Diego Padres with a left-triceps contusion after being hit by a pitch, according to The Denver Post's Patrick Saunders. The hit-by-pitch happened in the first inning, and Tovar was replaced by Owen Miller in the third inning. It doesn't sound like the 23-year-old's injury is very serious, so we'll consider him day-to-day for now. Fantasy managers drafting soon shouldn't be dropping Tovar down their draft boards. RotoBaller has Tovar ranked as the No. 12 fantasy shortstop after he posted career-highs in home runs (26), RBI (78) and runs scored (83) while leading the league in doubles (45) and at-bats (655) while also slashing .269/.295/.469 in 157 games played. The knock on Tovar is that he strikes out plenty (200 times last year), but also walked just 3.3% of the time.

Tue Sep 17 202400:50Ezequiel Tovar Hits 24th Homer Of Season Monday
Colorado Rockies shortstop Ezequiel Tovar played his part offensively in Monday's 3-2 win over the Diamondbacks. Tovar went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and two strikeouts. The 23-year-old took a fourth-inning Merrill Kelly offering to the opposite field, landing it in the right-center bullpen for his 24th HR of the season. Tovar's season numbers look good overall, but he has struggled in the second half of the season. He is now slashing .244/.270/.465 in 213 second-half at-bats with 10 HR, 26 RBI, and two stolen bases. This batting average is bolstered by a solid July, as he hit just .200 in August and is hitting .182 in September.

Wed Aug 28 202400:26Ezequiel Tovar Homers Twice, Plates Four Tuesday
Colorado Rockies shortstop Ezequiel Tovar (hernia) had a great game back in the lineup for Tuesday's 9-8 loss to the Marlins. Tovar, who missed Monday's game due to a sports hernia, went 3-for-4 with a double, a solo home run, a two-run HR, four RBI, and a strikeout. The 23-year-old went back-to-back with Charlie Blackmon in the first inning, launching a 456-foot bomb to straightaway center. He victimized Roddery Munoz again in the second inning, lining a fastball into the left-field seats. This performance was encouraging for fantasy managers, for while Tovar's season numbers are fine, he owns a poor .202/.224/.372 slash line in 94 August at-bats.

Tue Aug 27 202416:19Ezequiel Tovar Returns Against Marlins
As expected, Colorado Rockies shortstop Ezequiel Tovar (hernia) is back at shortstop and hitting in the two-hole on Tuesday against the Miami Marlins and right-hander Roddery Munoz at Coors Field. Tovar was held out of Monday's contest due to a sports hernia that he's been dealing with, but it's obviously not serious enough to keep him out for an extended period of time. The Rockies have nothing left to play for in 2024 but pride, though, so if the 23-year-old continues to struggle offensively, they could consider shutting him down. Tovar has hit .271/.296/.455 on the year with a career-high 19 home runs and 55 RBI in 127 games in his second full season in the big leagues. However, he's struggled in the dog days of August, going 16-for-90 (.178) with a homer, six doubles, three RBI and 32 strikeouts in 21 games. Fantasy managers have to be worried that his hernia is the reason for his recent cold stretch.

Tue Aug 27 202412:30Ezequiel Tovar Likely To Play On Tuesday
Colorado Rockies shortstop Ezequiel Tovar (hernia), who was given Monday against the Miami Marlin off as he battles through a sports hernia, is likely to play on Tuesday at Coors Field. We now have a little more insight to why Tovar has struggled so much in the month of August. Those struggles could continue, too, as this is something that will most likely be bothering him the rest of the way. The 23-year-old Venezuelan infielder has gone just 16-for-90 (.178) with a homer, six doubles, three RBI, three walks and 32 strikeouts in 94 plate appearances over 21 games in August. Tovar is still hitting a very respectable .271 (144-for-532) on the year with 19 home runs, but his on-base percentage has now dipped below .300, and fantasy managers have to be concerned that he could continue to struggle while dealing with a sports hernia.

Mon Jul 22 202419:10Ezequiel Tovar Returns From Illness
Colorado Rockies shortstop Ezequiel Tovar (illness) is back at shortstop and is hitting second in the order for the Rockies for Monday's series opener against the visiting Boston Red Sox and right-hander Tanner Houck. Tovar didn't play in Sunday's series finale against the division-rival San Francisco Giants due to flu-like symptoms. He's not quite 100 percent but is good enough to return to action on Monday. Despite not being 100 percent, fantasy managers should put the 22-year-old Venezuelan back in their starting lineups. After going hitless in his first seven games in the month of July, Tovar will carry an eight-game hitting streak into Monday's contest. Over his current streak, he's gone 15-for-34 (.441) with four home runs, four doubles, nine RBI and seven runs scored. Tovar hasn't faced Houck in his career.

Mon Jul 15 202400:55Ezequiel Tovar Hits First Two Homers Of July
Colorado Rockies shortstop Ezequiel Tovar finished his first half in style on Sunday, popping two homers in an 8-5 victory over the New York Mets. Tovar finished the day 3-for-4 with two runs, two homers, and four RBI. After a miserable stretch in early July where he went 0-for-28 with 11 strikeouts, Tovar has gone 11-for-25 (.440) in his last six games, hitting safely in each of them. The 22-year-old has been solid for fantasy this year, but his advanced numbers don't back it up and he has been trending down for some time. His fantasy owners will have to hope that his last few games get him on track for the second half.

Wed Jul 3 202419:24Ezequiel Tovar Getting A Day Off
Colorado Rockies shortstop Ezequiel Tovar will get the day off on Wednesday against the visiting Milwaukee Brewers at Coors Field. It's a rare day of rest for Tovar, as this is just his third game off of the 2024 season. The 22-year-old shortstop is having a solid year for himself in his second full season for the Rockies, slashing .276/.304/.459 with 12 home runs, 24 doubles, two triples, 37 RBI, four stolen bases and 42 runs scored in 84 games. But after going 0-for-10 with four strikeouts in the first two games of July, the Rockies have decided to give their young star shortstop a breather. He'll be replaced at the 6 on Wednesday by Aaron Schunk, who will bat ninth in the order against Brewers right-hander Colin Rea. Schunk has only played in three big-league games to this point and is searching for his first hit after his first four plate appearances.
