Wed May 709:52Brendan Rodgers Cranks First Long Ball Of 2025
Houston Astros second baseman Brendan Rodgers went 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. The former third-overall pick drove in Houston's first three runs of the game with his first homer of the season, but that would be all they'd push across in the outing. Rodgers has gotten steady playing time over the past week or so and has actually been better off right-handed pitching this season (13-for-54). It may not be evident in the box score just yet, but he's making far better contact in his first stint with the Astros, sporting career-highs in average exit velocity (91.1 MPH) and hard-hit rate (51.2%). He's still striking out at an undesirable 33.8% clip, though.

Sat Apr 1218:36Brendan Rodgers Remains Out On Saturday
Houston Astros infielder Brendan Rodgers (hip) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Angels. Earlier on Saturday, Astros manager Joe Espada said Rodgers is dealing with left hip soreness. It's worth noting that Rodgers was able to field grounders ahead of Saturday's contest. It doesn't sound like Rodgers will require a trip to the injured list, but we'll wait and see how he feels on Sunday. In the meantime, Jose Altuve will cover second base while Zach Dezenzo takes over in left field against left-hander Tyler Anderson on Saturday.

Sat Mar 2916:08Cam Smith, Brendan Rodgers, Jake Meyers Not In Saturday's Lineup
Houston Astros infielder Brendan Rodgers and outfielders Cam Smith and Jake Meyers are not in Saturday's lineup when the Astros conclude a three-game set against the New York Mets. As a result, Zach Dezenzo will cover right field for Smith, Mauricio Dubon will cover the keystone for Rogers, and Chas McCormick will replace Meyers in center field. Fantasy managers should expect Smith, Rogers, and Meyers to all return to the starting lineup on Monday evening when they host the San Francisco Giants. Smith has started in right field during the first two games of the campaign. Rogers has emerged as Houston's No. 1 second baseman while Jake Meyers appears to be the top option in center field. Dezenzo, Dubon, and McCormick are worth a look in DFS facing New York right-hander Griffin Canning, who held a 5.19 ERA last season.

Fri Mar 2816:04Brendan Rodgers Making Another Start At Second Base
Houston Astros infielder Brendan Rodgers is making a second straight start over Mauricio Dubon on Friday at second base and will bat eighth against the visiting New York Mets and right-hander Tylor Megill at Daikin Park. All signs pointed to Dubon seeing most of the playing time at the keystone to open the 2025 season after the Astros decided to move All-Star Jose Altuve to left field full time, but so far it's been Rodgers at the keystone in Houston. The 28-year-old former Rockies second baseman went hitless in four plate appearances with one walk in the team's Opening Day win over the Mets on Thursday. The Astros may actually prefer the oft-injured Rodgers at the keystone to begin the season, but if he's not producing, Dubon could get his opportunity sooner than later. Rodgers had extreme home/road splits while with Colorado and should only be rostered in AL-only fantasy leagues for the time being.

Thu Mar 2715:14Brendan Rodgers Gets The Nod At Second Base For Houston
Houston Astros infielder Brendan Rodgers is making the start at second base and is batting eighth on Opening Day on Thursday against the New York Mets and right-hander Clay Holmes at Daikin Park in Houston. Rodgers will make the first start at the keystone for the 'Stros in 2025, but Mauricio Dubon is expected to see most of the playing time at the position for the team this year. The 28-year-old Rodgers hit just .233 (10-for-43) with five doubles, eight RBI and four runs scored in 44 plate appearances over 15 Grapefruit League games this spring and should mainly operate as a utility infielder in his first year in Houston. He has four career at-bats against Holmes and has not recorded a hit. Not only has Rodgers struggled to stay healthy in his career, but he has never hit very well away from hitter-friendly Coors Field, which will pose a problem now that he's no longer playing for the Rockies.

Wed Mar 2600:13Brendan Rodgers Makes Astros Opening Day Roster
Houston Astros manager Joe Espada said Tuesday that second baseman Brendan Rodgers earned the final spot on the major-league roster, per the Houston Chronicle's Matt Kawahara. The 28-year-old signed a minor-league deal with the Astros this offseason and put forth a mediocre spring offensively, slashing .233/.250/.349 with no home runs and eight RBI in 44 plate appearances. Rodgers put together solid batting averages during his time with the Rockies, but he was never able to take advantage of his power potential at Coors Field. He will likely have to compete with Mauricio Dubon for playing time at second base with Jose Altuve moving to left field. Despite making the big-league roster, Rodgers is only worth a fantasy look in deep leagues at this time.

Tue Feb 1823:44Astros Sign Infielder Brendan Rodgers To Minor-League Deal
The Houston Astros have signed free-agent infielder Brendan Rodgers to a minor-league deal with an invitation to spring training on Tuesday night. Rodgers had played his entire career with the Colorado Rockies before being non-tendered in the offseason. The former third-overall draft pick never lived up to his top prospect billing but was able to cobble together a .267-13-54-67-1 line in 2024. He's still only 28 years old, so he's still got time to turn it around, and maybe a new organization will help unlock his true potential. With an aging Jose Altuve currently slotted in as the starting second baseman, it's wise for the Astros to also have an insurance policy in Rodgers.

Sun Jan 1212:54Yankees Interested In Brendan Rodgers
According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the New York Yankees have been in discussions with free agent second baseman Brendan Rodgers. Earlier this offseason, Rodgers was non-tendered by the Rockies. The Yankees did not choose to resign Gleyber Torres, leaving a hole in their starting nine. While there have been reports of the Yankees looking to fill this gap with internal options such as DJ LeMahieu, Oswald Peraza, and Oswaldo Cabrera, they have also expressed interest in acquiring a hitter from another club. They have shown interest in trading for Luis Arraez and Nolan Arenado. Rodgers enjoyed a solid campaign in 2024 as he posted a .267/.314/.407 line with 13 home runs. He generated a strong 44.1% hard-hit rate. If Rodgers were to sign a contract with the Yankees, he would likely be deployed as the everyday second baseman.

Fri Nov 22 202421:35Rockies Non-Tender Brendan Rodgers, Cal Quantrill
The Colorado Rockies non-tendered infielder Brendan Rodgers and right-hander Cal Quantrill on Friday, making them free agents. Despite having one of his better seasons in Colorado, Rodgers will become a free agent after hitting .267/.314/.407 with 13 home runs, 54 RBI and 67 runs scored in 135 games in his sixth year with the team. If Colorado doesn't do anything to upgrade the keystone in the offseason, Aaron Schunk figures to be the top option to start at second in 2025. Quantrill, 29, won't return for a second year in Colorado after going 8-11 with an ERA just south of 5.00 and a WHIP of 1.52 in 148 1/3 innings over 29 starts. He was slightly worse on the road than at hitter-friendly Coors Field. Quantrill should latch on with another organization looking for rotation depth and he should have a spot to compete for a back-end rotation gig.

Sat Sep 28 202418:32Brendan Rodgers Scratched From Saturday's Lineup With Left Hamstring Soreness
Colorado Rockies second baseman Brendan Rodgers was scratched from Saturday's starting lineup with left hamstring soreness according to the team. Aaron Schunk is set to start at second base in his place and will bat eighth. Rodgers missed all of Colorado's series against the St. Louis Cardinals earlier this week with hamstring soreness, making this lingering issue a problem as the Rockies finish their season. With only one game left in the season it may not be surprising to see the Rockies rest the 28-year-old and give Schunk more chances to prove himself at the major league level. Rodgers has been decent but not overwhelming at the plate in 2024, hitting for a 94 OPS+. It's a step up from his 82 OPS+ he posted in 2023 but isn't quite the level that the Rockies expected out of him when he started getting consistent playing time in 2021. If he is to miss Sunday's game, expect Schunk to pick up more time at second in his place. Schunk has performed very strong over the past week, posting four multi-hit games in his last four starts and has at least one hit in his last seven starts. He may make a sneaky option for DFS players against Dodgers' scheduled starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

Fri Sep 27 202417:31Brendan Rodgers Returns Against Dodgers
Colorado Rockies second baseman Brendan Rodgers (hamstring) is back at second base and is batting sixth for the Rockies on Friday against the division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers at Coors Field. It's unclear who exactly is starting for the Dodgers in the series opener after the won the National League West division title on Thursday night with a win over the division-rival San Diego Padres. Rodgers will return to action after missing the last three games with tightness in his left hamstring. The 28-year-old infielder has underwhelmed in his career with the Rockies but is having one of his better seasons in 2024, slashing .267/.313/.406 with 13 home runs, 54 RBI and 65 runs scored in 134 games played. Rodgers was hot in August but has gone cold in September, going 11-for-60 (.183) with four doubles, four RBI, five walks and 24 strikeouts in 17 games.

Thu Sep 26 202412:41Brendan Rodgers Still Out On Thursday
Colorado Rockies second baseman Brendan Rodgers (hamstring) remains sidelined for Thursday's series finale against the St. Louis Cardinals at Coors Field. Rodgers will be missing his third straight game this week due to tightness in his left hamstring. The 28-year-old should be considered day-to-day heading into the final series of the regular season, which begins on Friday at Coors Field against the division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers. With Rodgers out again, rookie Aaron Schunk is making the start at second base and will hit in the nine-hole against Cardinals right-hander Kyle Gibson. Schunk has never faced Gibson in his career and is a DFS option to avoid at the bottom of the Rockies' batting order. The 27-year-old is in his first year in the majors in 2024 and has hit .244 (20-for-82) with two homers, three doubles, six RBI and 26 strikeouts in 86 trips to the plate.

Mon Sep 16 202419:02Brendan Rodgers Returning On Monday
Colorado Rockies second baseman Brendan Rodgers (hamstring) is back in the starting lineup ahead of Monday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Rodgers is back in the mix after sitting out the last two games due to right hamstring tightness. He'll cover second base and bat fifth versus right-hander Merrill Kelly on Monday. Rodgers has been better with the bat during the second half of the season. He's hitting over .280 with seven home runs and 22 RBI since the All-Star break. Fantasy managers in season long formats can get Rodgers back in their lineups on Monday.

Sun Sep 15 202413:25Brendan Rodgers Remains Sidelined With Hamstring Tightness
Colorado Rockies second baseman Brendan Rodgers (hamstring) remains sidelined on Sunday due to hamstring tightness. However, Patrick Lyons of Justbaseball.com reports that the infielder could return to the starting nine as early as Monday. Rodgers sat out Saturday's game but should not be expected to miss any significant period of time. Before the injury, Rogers held a mere .184/.225/.237 line throughout September with only two extra-base hits. As a result, Aaron Schunk will cover the keystone and bat in the nine-hole. The 27-year-old has tallied at least one hit in each of the past three starts and could be a sneaky play in DFS this afternoon as he will face Cubs right-hander Kyle Hendricks, who carries a hefty 6.51 ERA.

Fri Aug 30 202400:42Brendan Rodgers Swats Pair Of Homers
Colorado Rockies second baseman Brendan Rodgers went 3-for-5 with two homers in a 12-8 loss against the Miami Marlins on Thursday. Rodgers collected three runs and three RBI to provide a solid overall line. The 28-year-old has had a rollercoaster August, going 20-for-51 (.392) with three homers and 10 RBI in the first 13 games of the month, then going 7-for-39 (.179) with no homers and one RBI in his last 10 games coming into this one. He probably lies somewhere in between, but for fantasy purposes he should probably only be used when the Rockies have a full slate of home games on the schedule.
