Fri Jun 2012:35Luke Raley Returning From IL
MLB.com's Daniel Kramer reports that the Seattle Mariners are activating outfielder Luke Raley (oblique) from the injured list ahead of their road series opener with the Chicago Cubs. First baseman Rowdy Tellez was designated for assignment in a corresponding move. Raley has been on the mend since late April with an oblique strain, but he's ready to return from his lengthy absence after going 7-for-19 with a double and a home run in five minor-league rehab games. The Lake Erie College product struggled to a .206/.345/.324 triple slash in 24 games before his injury. However, it's worth mentioning that he's vastly underperformed his xBA (.260) and xSLG (.432).

Thu Jun 1915:11Luke Raley Could Return This Weekend
The Seattle Times' Adam Jude reports that Seattle Mariners first baseman/outfielder Luke Raley (oblique) is on the verge of being activated from the 10-day injured list and could return this weekend for a series against the Chicago Cubs. When he does return, the 30-year-old left-handed slugger is expected to be in the strong side of a platoon in Seattle in right field. He has gone 7-for-19 with a home run and a double in five minor-league rehab games with Triple-A Tacoma. Fantasy managers in shallow formats can continue to ignore Raley, who will be returning to just a .206/.345/.324 slash line with two round-trippers, eight RBI and 10 runs scored in his 68 at-bats. In addition to being able to play right field, Raley could be used at first base and designated hitter by the M's. His power can be useful in deeper fantasy formats after he hit a career-high 22 homers in 2024.

Thu Jun 1216:05Luke Raley Starting Rehab Assignment on Thursday
Seattle Mariners first baseman/outfielder Luke Raley (oblique) is scheduled to start his minor-league rehab assignment on Thursday with Triple-A Tacoma, according to The Seattle Times' Adam Jude. It could be a rather lengthy rehab assignment for Raley, who has been sidelined since late April with a strained right oblique. But once the 30-year-old veteran left-handed slugger returns to Seattle, he could be on the strong side of a platoon in right field against right-handed pitchers. Before his injury, he was hitting just .206/.345/.324 with two home runs, eight RBI, 10 runs scored and two stolen bases in 24 games played. Raley's power/speed combination makes him worth rostering in deep-mixed leagues as a depth piece. In 2023 and 2024 with the Tampa Bay Rays and Mariners, Raley combined for 41 home runs, 107 RBI and 25 stolen bases in 255 games.

Thu May 2917:30Luke Raley Expected to Begin Rehab Assignment Next Week
Seattle Mariners first baseman Luke Raley (oblique) will rejoin the team in the next couple of days and ramp up the swinging part of his baseball activities, according to MLB.com's Daniel Kramer. The Mariners are targeting the week of June 3 for Raley to start a minor-league rehab assignment. It means that the 30-year-old veteran left-handed hitter could be back from the 10-day injured list from a strained right oblique by late next week, barring a setback when he resumes playing in games. Raley was put on the IL back on April 30 but has been ramping up his baseball activities of late. The former seventh-round selection by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2016 out of Lake Erie College was hitting just .206/.345/.324 with a .669 OPS, two homer runs, two doubles, eight RBI, 10 runs and two steals in 24 games before his injury. He hit a combined 41 homers the previous two season with the Rays and Mariners.

Wed Apr 3014:11Luke Raley Placed On 10-Day Injured List
The Seattle Mariners have placed first baseman/outfielder Luke Raley (oblique) on the 10-day injured list retroactive to April 28. The 30-year-old suffered this injury earlier in the week and was held out of action during Tuesday's contest. In a corresponding move, the Mariners promoted outfielder Rhylan Thomas from Triple-A Tacoma. Through the first 24 games of the regular season, Raley has posted a .206/.345/.324 slash line with two doubles, two home runs, eight RBI, two stolen bases, and a 20:10 K:BB. However, under the hood, Raley has generated an impressive .373 xwOBA with a 14.3 percent barrel rate, which are both well above the average marks, which suggests he should see positive regression when he returns to action. While he is sidelined, Thomas and Samad Taylor should see time in right field.

Sat Apr 518:19Luke Raley Heads To The Bench
Seattle Mariners first baseman Luke Raley (rest) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Saturday's game against the San Francisco Giants. Raley has struggled against left-handed pitching in his career, so he'll take a seat against southpaw Robbie Ray on Saturday. In his absence, Cal Raleigh will slide over to the designated hitter spot while Mitch Garver does the catching. There's a good chance that Raley only plays in a platoon role for the Mariners this season. That being said, it might be difficult for Raley to hold fantasy value outside of AL-only formats.

Tue Apr 109:49Luke Raley Goes Yard In Mariners Loss
Seattle Mariners first baseman Luke Raley picked up his first home run of the 2025 season on Monday night at home against the Tigers. His long ball came in the fourth inning of impressive rookie Jackson Jobe, and at that point, the solo shot cut the Tigers' lead to 8-3. Ultimately, Detroit held on to win 9-6, and Raley finished the night 1-for-2 with a pair of walks. In the early going this season, Raley is 2-for-8 (.250) with three walks and three strikeouts. He typically hits in the heart of the order when he's in the lineup, but he has not started in either of the Mariners' two games against left-handed starting pitchers. He does provide home run potential, but he isn't quite mixed-league material given his role in a platoon at first for the M's.

Fri Mar 1408:18Luke Raley Could See Time Against Left-Handed Pitching
Seattle Mariners first baseman/outfielder Luke Raley could see time against left-handed pitching. Last season, the 30-year-old deployed exclusively on the strong side of a platoon. However, manager Dan Wilson suggested that he first base may not be a "strict" platoon in 2025. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status in spring training as it could provide clarity on his potential for increased playing time. Last season, Raley held a .243/.320/.463 line with 22 home runs and 11 stolen bases, facing exclusively right-handed pitching. He generated a strong 11.0 percent barrel rate and held a 90.1 mph average exit velocity. Donovan Solano would likely face left-handed pitching if Raley were to revert to a strict platoon. Raley is worth a late-round target especially in deeper formats as he could enjoy a career-season with increased at-bats.

Sat Mar 112:32Luke Raley Starting On Saturday
Seattle Mariners first baseman/outfielder Luke Raley (undisclosed) is back in the starting nine for Saturday afternoon's contest against the Chicago White Sox. Raley was dealing with an undisclosed injury throughout the week but has been cleared ahead of Saturday's game. He will start at first base and bat in the cleanup spot. Last season, Raley was on the strong side of a platoon as he made only two starts against southpaws. In 137 contests, the 30-year-old held a .243/.320/.463 slash line with 22 home runs and 11 stolen bases. He generated a modest .316 xwOBA with a low .220 xBA, suggesting he may face some regression during the 2025 campaign. Fantasy managers should expect Raley to have a similar role at first base in 2025, making him an intriguing late-round option in deeper formats.

Tue Feb 2514:02Luke Raley Scratched On Tuesday
Seattle Mariners first baseman/outfielder Luke Raley (undisclosed) was scratched from Tuesday's Cactus League lineup for undisclosed reasons against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Tyler Locklear replaced Raley in the starting lineup and is batting fifth and playing first base. We'll post an update on Raley if he was scratched due to an injury. The 30-year-old left-handed hitter enjoyed his first year in Seattle in 2024, slashing .234/.320/.463 with a career-high 22 home runs, 58 RBI, 11 stolen bases and 58 runs scored in 137 games and 455 plate appearances. He especially excelled at T-Mobile Park, although his fantasy value was limited because of the fact that he only started twice against left-handed pitchers. Twenty of his 22 home runs also came against righties. Raley has fanned at over a 30% clip in his career, but his power stroke from the left side makes him a valuable corner-infield commodity in deeper fantasy leagues.

Wed Sep 25 202412:12Luke Raley, Josh Rojas Sitting Against Astros
Seattle Mariners outfielder/first baseman/designated hitter Luke Raley and infielder Josh Rojas are both starting the game on the bench for Wednesday's series finale at Minute Maid Park against the division-rival Houston Astros with a left-hander on the mound. Justin Turner is making the start at first base and is batting fifth, while Dylan Moore will man the hot corner and bat out of the nine-hole against Astros left-hander Yusei Kikuchi. Turner has an RBI and is hitting .273 in 11 career at-bats against Kikuchi, while Moore has gone hitless against the southpaw in five career at-bats. Raley has reached the 20-homer mark for the first time in his career in 2024, but he's also hitting just .192 (14-for-73) with just two of his 21 long balls against lefties. Rojas has been even worse against lefties, going 8-for-58 (.138) with none of his eight home runs on the year.

Fri Sep 6 202401:51Luke Raley Tallies Three Extra-Base Hits
Seattle Mariners outfielder Luke Raley had his power stroke working on Thursday, going 3-for-5 with two doubles and a homer in a 6-4 win over the Oakland Athletics. Raley added two RBI and a run scored to round out his line. The 29-year-old hasn't been quite as good as he was last year for Tampa Bay, but since the start of August he has looked terrific, smashing seven homers and batting .283 with an OPS over 1.000. He can be a solid streaming option in fantasy and even a starter in deeper leagues when he's on.

Tue Aug 27 202418:29Luke Raley Takes A Seat
Seattle Mariners outfielder Luke Raley is out of the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays. Fantasy managers don't need to worry as his absence doesn't appear to be injury related. Raley missed a game over the weekend due to an illness, but he appears to be fine now. He'll take a seat against a tough lefty Jeffrey Springs. Justin Turner will cover first base and bat sixth during Tuesday's game. The 39-year-old has seen a regression at the plate during the 2024 season. Turner is hitting a lackluster .214 with one home run and 10 RBI in 21 games with the Mariners. The veteran slugger can be avoided in most fantasy formats.

Mon Aug 26 202419:00Luke Raley Returns On Monday
Seattle Mariners outfielder/first baseman Luke Raley (illness) is back in the starting lineup ahead of Monday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays. This is good news after Raley was scratched from Sunday's contest due to flu-like symptoms. It must've been a minor issue as Raley is in the leadoff spot and covering first base against right-hander Ryan Pepiot on Monday. Raley has been a viable option at the plate against right-handed pitching. He's hitting .247 with 14 home runs and 38 RBI this season. He should be worth a look as a streaming option for Monday's slate.

Sat Aug 3 202409:32Luke Raley Homers, Drives In Three Friday
Seattle Mariners outfielder Luke Raley blasted his 12th home run of the 2024 campaign in Friday's 10-2 win over the Phillies, a three-run shot off starter Tyler Phillips in the second inning. That would end up being his only hit of the game, however, going 1-for-4 on the night. Raley's batting average was as high as .263 on June 23, but since then he's gone 14-for-91 (.154), bringing his season average down to .228. With a 31.4% K%, he may not be able to turn it around, but with 12 home runs and nine stolen bases, he may still be useful for fantasy in some deeper leagues, as he's also eligible at both 1B and OF. The 29-year-old finished last season with 19 home runs and 14 stolen bases in 118 games and looks to be on pace for that again this season.

Tue Jul 23 202410:07Luke Raley Still In Batting Funk
Seattle Mariners first baseman Luke Raley finished 0-for-3 in Monday's 3-1 loss to the Los Angeles Angels, marking the seventh time he has been hitless in his past eight games. Raley has recorded just one hit since July 11 and is batting .233/.290/.415 with 11 homers, 29 RBI, and 35 RBI while adding six stolen bases in eight attempts. The occasional power makes Raley an asset to consider in deeper leagues, but fantasy managers can find more consistent production off the waiver wire at first base.

Sat Jun 29 202418:19Luke Raley Returning On Saturday
Seattle Mariners outfielder Luke Raley (shoulder) is back in the starting lineup ahead of Saturday's game against the Minnesota Twins. Raley makes his return after missing each of the last two games due to shoulder soreness. He'll bat fifth and cover left field against right-hander Pablo Lopez on Saturday. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups with Raley back in the mix.

Wed Jun 26 202412:04Luke Raley Scratched On Wednesday
Seattle Mariners outfielder Luke Raley (undisclosed) has been scratched from the team's starting lineup on Wednesday for the series finale against the Tampa Bay Rays due to undisclosed reasons. Dylan Moore will move from second base to take Raley's spot in left field, and he will hit eighth against Rays right-hander Ryan Pepiot. Rookie Ryan Bliss will draw into the lineup at second base for the M's and will hit out of the nine-hole. Fantasy managers will want to check back later for an explanation as to why the 29-year-old left-handed-hitting Raley was taken out of Wednesday's lineup. Raley has been a key contributor for Seattle this year, hitting .253 (50-for-198) with nine home runs, 22 RBI, five stolen bases and 28 runs scored.UPDATE: Raley is dealing with a sore shoulder and was scratched when it didn't loosen up in the cage before Wednesday's game.

Seattle Mariners outfielder Luke Raley (lat) has returned to the starting lineup ahead of Friday's game against the Los Angeles Angels. The 29-year-old missed Thursday's game due to a lat issue, but appears to be fine now. Raley will cover left field and bat eighth versus right-hander Jose Soriano. This season, Raley is slashing .260/.299/.394 with four home runs and 12 RBI in 45 games.

Thu May 30 202415:55Luke Raley Out With Sore Lat
Seattle Mariners outfielder Luke Raley (lat) is not in the team's starting lineup on Thursday against the visiting division-rival Houston Astros due to a sore lat. Raley will receive the day off to let it calm down, but it remains to be seen if he'll be back in for Friday's series opener against the visiting Los Angeles Angels. It doesn't sound like a serious injury for the 29-year-old left-handed hitter, so hopefully he'll be back on the field at some point this weekend against the Halos. All four of Raley's homers this year have come in May, a month in which he's hit a strong .292 (21-for-72) with two doubles and nine RBI in 78 plate appearances and 23 games to earn more run in Seattle's lineup against right-handed pitching. Dominic Canzone is starting in left field on Thursday and will hit sixth in the order against Astros rookie right-hander Spencer Arrighetti.
