Thu May 1518:28Josh Lowe Collects Three Hits In Return
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe made his return to the lineup during Thursday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays. Lowe has been sidelined since injuring his oblique on Opening Day. He returned with a bang during Thursday's game. He finished the day going 3-for-5 with two singles and a solo home run off right-hander Kevin Gausman in the fifth inning. When healthy, Lowe has the ability to be a legitimate threat in this lineup. That being said, Lowe is worth rostering in most 12-team formats going forward.

Thu May 1512:50Josh Lowe Activated And Starting On Thursday
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe (oblique) was activated from the 10-day injured list on Thursday and is starting in Thursday's series finale against the division-rival Toronto Blue Jays and right-hander Kevin Gausman. Lowe is serving as the designated hitter and will bat leadoff for the Rays in his first game back since he strained his oblique on Opening Day. In a corresponding move, Tampa placed outfielder Travis Jankowski (groin) on the IL. The 27-year-old Lowe had two home runs in his six minor-league rehab games, so fantasy managers are hoping he can continue swinging the bat well in his return to the majors. If he can stay healthy, which has been an issue in his career, Lowe will play regularly for the Rays in right field and offers fantasy managers an intriguing mix of power and speed. In 2023 and 2024, Lowe had a combined 30 home runs, 117 RBI and 57 stolen bases in 241 games played.

Tue May 1312:24Josh Lowe Could Return This Weekend
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe (oblique) could come off the 10-day injured list for the team's series against the Miami Marlins that starts on Friday, according to the Tampa Bay Times' Marc Topkin. Lowe began his minor-league rehab in the rookie-level Florida Complex League before moving to Triple-A Durham last Thursday. In three rehab games with the Bulls, the 27-year-old left-handed hitter has gone 2-for-9 at the plate. He's scheduled to play in a couple more games at Triple-A this week before the Rays contemplate activating him for the weekend. Lowe has been away from the team since Opening Day, when he sustained a Grade 2 right-oblique strain on a swing. Already with a 20-homer, 30-steal season a couple of years ago, there's no reason Lowe should be floating around on any waiver wires with his return imminent.

Tue May 1300:00Josh Lowe Picks Up Two Hits In Rehab Outing
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe (oblique) went 2-for-3 with two singles, a run scored and a walk in a minor-league rehab appearance with Triple-A Durham on Sunday while serving as the Bulls' designated hitter. Lowe moved his rehab assignment from the rookie-level Florida Complex League to Triple-A last Thursday after hitting a two-run homer with two walks in five plate appearances in the FCL. In three games with the Bulls, the 27-year-old left-handed hitter has gone 2-for-9 with three walks and four strikeouts. Lowe suffered a right-oblique strain on Opening Day but could be ready to make his return from the injured list by the weekend or early next week if he can avoid a setback. His intriguing mix of power and speed -- he hit 20 bombs and stole 32 bases in 2023 -- makes him stash-worthy in all fantasy leagues, and he should be an everyday player in Tampa when he returns.

Tue May 612:24Josh Lowe Starting Rehab Assignment
The Tampa Bay Rays sent outfielder Josh Lowe (back, oblique) out on a minor-league rehab assignment to the rookie-level Florida Complex League on Tuesday. Lowe strained his right oblique on Opening Day in late March and had his rehab stalled a bit recently due to a bout with back spasms. The 27-year-old left-handed hitter is feeling better now, though, and will begin playing in minor-league games as he looks to make his way back to the major-league roster. It's unclear how many games he'll need down on the farm before being activated from the injured list, but barring any further setbacks, he should be back with the Rays by the middle of May. The former 13th overall pick in 2016 has had trouble staying on the field but has a useful power/speed profile for fantasy managers when he's healthy, and he's an everyday player. Lowe had 20 homers, 83 RBI and 32 steals for Tampa in 2023.

Fri May 222:35Josh Lowe Nursing Back Spasms, Hasn't Started Rehab Assignment
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe (back, oblique) has yet to start a minor-league rehab assignment, according to manager Kevin Cash. In addition to the strained right oblique that he suffered on Opening Day that sent him to the injured list, Lowe is nursing some back spasms that are unrelated to his oblique injury. The 27-year-old had a trigger-point injection and will be shut down for a couple of days. "We'll see how he responds," Cash said. "We were hoping he was gonna wake up feeling better this morning, but he did not...it should resolve pretty quick. That's our hope." It's more bad news for Lowe, who probably won't be able to come off the IL for another couple weeks at the earliest. With rookie Jake Mangum (groin) and Richie Palacios (knee) also sidelined, Kameron Misner has been seeing regular playing time for the Rays and is taking advantage, going 25-for-79 (.316) with three homers, 11 RBI and 14 runs scored.

Tue Apr 2919:09Josh Lowe Progressing Well, Could Play In Rehab Games On Saturday
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe (oblique) has been progressing well and could be cleared to participate in rehab games on Saturday. According to Ryan Bass of the FanDuel Sports Network, Lowe participated in batting practice on Tuesday and is expected to take another session on Friday before officially being cleared for a rehab assignment. This is an excellent sign for the 27-year-old as he has only appeared in one game this season before suffering this injury. If Lowe progresses well this week and is able to carry this success into his rehab assignment, he could be cleared to return to the starting nine sometime next week. In 2023, Lowe held a .241/.302/.391 slash line with 10 home runs and 25 stolen bases. Given his five-category potential, he is a solid depth outfielder in standard formats when he returns to action.

Sun Apr 2014:19Josh Lowe Takes 20 Dry Swings
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe (oblique) took 20 dry swings on Saturday and did not feel any pain in his oblique. Ryan Bass of the Tampa Bay Rays reported that the outfielder hopes to begin hitting off a tee next week if he continues to progress. This is an excellent sign for the 27-year-old as he has been on the injured list since March 29 due to a right oblique strain. Fantasy managers should monitor his progress as he could face live pitching in the coming weeks if he does not face any setbacks. Before the injury, the 27-year-old appeared in just one contest and tallied one hit. Last season, Lowe was limited by injuries as well, appearing in just 106 games and posting a .241/.302/.391 slash line. When Lowe does return, he will likely have an everyday role in right field.

Tue Apr 820:06Josh Lowe Moving Around "Pain-Free"
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe (oblique) is improving nicely from a Grade 2 right-oblique strain that he suffered on Opening Day. "Josh is actually moving pretty pain free, which we're encouraged by that. It's still a ways, but we got to be happy with the way he's his body is feeling," manager Kevin Cash said. Lowe still has a ways to go before the Rays think about activating him from the IL, but so far he's making good progress from an injury that sidelined him last year as well. It remains to be seen when Lowe will resume baseball activities, but it seems unlikely that we'll see him back in the big leagues before the end of April. In the meantime, given all the injuries to Tampa Bay's outfielders -- Jonny DeLuca just went on the IL on Tuesday with a shoulder ailment -- both Kameron Misner and Jake Mangum will see regular playing time for the Rays.

Sat Mar 2912:12Rays Place Josh Lowe On 10-Day Injured List With Oblique Strain
The Tampa Bay Rays placed outfielder Josh Lowe (oblique) on the 10-day injured list on Saturday with a right-oblique strain and recalled outfielder Jake Mangum from Triple-A Durham in a corresponding move, according to the Tampa Bay Times' Marc Topkin. Lowe strained his oblique on a single up the middle in the team's Opening Day win over the visiting Colorado Rockies on Friday and will probably not be ready to return from the IL when he's eligible. The 27-year-old is worth stashing in fantasy leagues where he's rostered while he heals, mainly for his stolen base prowess while he's healthy, but this is another reminder that in addition to a strikeout rate that spiked at 31.8 percent in 2024, Lowe's durability at the major-league level has been a big issue. Rookie Kameron Misner, who hit a walk-off homer on Friday for his first career long ball, is likely to start in right field in Tampa in Lowe's absence.

Fri Mar 2818:18Josh Lowe Departs Early On Friday With Oblique Discomfort
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe (rib) left Friday's game in the fifth inning against the visiting Colorado Rockies with right-oblique discomfort. Lowe singled up the middle in the fifth inning but was seen wincing during his swing before jogging gingerly to first base. The 27-year-old left-handed hitter was visibly upset before being pulled and replaced by Jose Caballero in right field. He missed time with an oblique injury in 2024 and has quickly developed an injury-prone label, so fantasy managers may want to prepare for an extended absence for an injury that will almost certainly land him on the injured list. Lowe has stolen 57 bags in the last two years but also had a strikeout rate over 30% last year. Kameron Misner, who has shown a decent power/speed combination in the minors for the Rays, could see an elevated role in the outfield going forward if Lowe is forced to miss extended time.

Tue Sep 24 202412:02Jonathan Aranda, Josh Lowe Sitting Against Tigers
Tampa Bay Rays infielder Jonathan Aranda and outfielder Josh Lowe are out of the team's starting lineup on Tuesday against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park with a left-hander on the mound. Brandon Lowe will start at first base and bat second, with Jonny DeLuca manning right field and hitting third for the Rays versus Tigers left-hander Tarik Skubal. Skubal is one of the best all-around pitchers in the game, so DFS managers will probably be looking to fade both Lowe and DeLuca on Tuesday. Aranda has gone deep in three straight games but will get a day off with a tough southpaw on the mound. Since being called back up on Aug. 30, he has hit .274 (17-for-62) with five homers, four doubles and 10 RBI in 20 games. Josh Lowe has hit just .227 (10-for-44) with none of his 10 home runs and 16 strikeouts in 49 plate appearances against lefties in 2024.

Sat Aug 10 202416:16Josh Lowe Returns To Saturday Night Lineup
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe (knee) returns to the lineup on Saturday night for their tilt with the Baltimore Orioles, batting sixth and playing left field. Lowe missed the game on Friday night after fouling a ball off his left knee in Thursday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals, where he was removed for precautionary reasons. The veteran outfielder is hitting .235 with seven home runs, 22 RBI, 10 stolen bases and 22 runs scored on the season. Lowe has been hot over his last seven games, hitting .333 with two home runs, three RBI, and four runs scored. Get him back in those lineups in daily leagues this afternoon.

Thu Aug 8 202421:07Josh Lowe Exits With Knee Contusion
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe (knee) exited with a right knee contusion in Thursday's series finale against the hosting St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium. Initial X-rays on Lowe's right knee came back negative for any fractures, so fantasy managers can consider him day-to-day as he deals with a bruise ahead of Friday's series opener against the division-rival Baltimore Orioles. Lowe fouled a pitch from Cardinals right-hander Kyle Gibson off his knee in the first inning of Thursday's finale against St. Louis. He was able to stay in the game and finish the at-bat but was replaced in left field by Kameron Misner in the next frame. 2024 has been an injury-plagued year for the 26-year-old right fielder, but he is batting .310 (18-for-58) with two home runs, eight RBI, seven runs scored, and three stolen bases in his last 17 games. Misner and Jonny DeLuca would likely create a platoon for at-bats in right field for any additional time Lowe may need to miss.

Sat Aug 3 202422:27Josh Lowe Homers Twice In Victory Saturday Night
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe homered twice in a 6-1 win over the Houston Astros on Saturday. Lowe hit his first home run off starter Ronel Blanco and his second off reliever Tayler Scott. He also had a double while knocking in three runs and scoring two more. The veteran outfielder upped his batting average to .235 and now has seven home runs, 22 RBI, 10 stolen bases, and 20 runs scored on the season. Lowe should be seeing regular playing time now due to injuries and the ineffectiveness of other players.

Fri Jun 28 202416:23Josh Lowe Resting Against A Left-Hander
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe is starting the game on the bench on Friday against the visiting Washington Nationals with a left-handed pitcher on the mound. With Lowe retreating to the bench against Nationals left-hander Mitchell Parker, Jonny DeLuca will draw into the lineup and start in right field for the Rays. Lowe deserves to be rostered in most fantasy formats because of his power/speed combination despite already missing a big chunk of the 2024 season due to injury. The former first-rounder is hitting .234/.303/.439 on the year with five home runs, seven doubles, 13 RBI and four stolen bases in 32 games played but has gone just 2-for-12 (.167) with an RBI and six strikeouts in his limited opportunities against lefty pitchers this year.

Fri Jun 21 202421:50Josh Lowe Blasts Two Homers, Racks Up Four RBI in Blowout Win
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe had a huge day at the plate, smacking two homers and notching four RBI in the Rays' 10-3 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday. The homers were the fourth and fifth of the season for Lowe and he now has 12 RBI in 2024. Lowe has been having a slow start to the season after missing time with an oblique injury, hitting for just an 83 OPS+. June has not been the lefty's best month hitting but he now has three HR in his last four games. Lowe has a small bit of positive regression heading his way per his .308 xwOBA, giving him potential upside going forward. Fantasy managers may want to consider adding Lowe and stashing him as a bench option. DFS players may want to consider adding him when facing righties on the road, his best situation in 2024 where he has a 113 wRC+.

Wed Jun 19 202408:22Josh Lowe Homers In Loss
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI and solo home run in Tuesday's loss versus the Minnesota Twins. It was a big game for the outfielder that has spent most of the season sidelined and has been in a season-long slump when healthy. Lowe is a regular starter for the Rays, but entering last night was on the verge of losing playing time as he was four for his last 32 entering the contest. Lowe was very productive for the Rays in 2023 with 20 homers, 83 RBI and 32 stolen bases, so the potential is there for Lowe to turn his season around. The hope is that Tuesday's performance can be what gets Lowe going as he can be a very productive all-around outfielder in most formats when he is at the top of his game.

Mon Jun 3 202414:08Josh Lowe Reinstated From The 10-Day Injured List
The Tampa Bay Rays reinstated outfielder Josh Lowe (oblique) from the 10-day injured list on the team's off day. It was expected to be a short-term IL stint for Lowe after he suffered a right oblique strain on May 22 for the second time this year. The outfielder, though, only missed two weeks and will now rejoin the team in Miami when the Rays take on the Marlins for a two-game series. Lowe should immediately slot back in atop Tampa Bay's lineup, especially after getting some reps on a rehab assignment this past weekend. If the 26-year-old is floating on the waiver wire right now in your league, make sure to pick him up. He hit .292 with 20 home runs, 83 RBI, and 32 stolen bases in a breakout 2023 campaign last season.

Mon Jun 3 202412:52Rays Hope To Have Josh Lowe Back On Tuesday
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe (oblique) started a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham on Friday and went 2-for-4 in his first game. He went 1-for-4 with a triple as the Bulls' designated hitter on Saturday and was set to return to right field on Sunday. Manager Kevin Cash said the team was "very encouraged" by Lowe's first two rehab games and hope to have him back in their starting lineup on Tuesday in Miami against the Marlins. Lowe was initially put on the injured list on May 25, three days after exiting the May 22 game against the Red Sox in the second inning. It's the second time this year he's dealt with a right-oblique strain, although his latest one was much less mild than the Grade 1 strain he suffered in mid-March in spring training. The 26-year-old left has gotten off to a slow start for the Rays this year amidst his injuries, but he needs to be rostered everywhere.
