Mon Jun 3016:07Anthony Santander Close to Swinging a Bat?
Toronto Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins said that outfielder/designated hitter Anthony Santander (shoulder) is getting close to starting a hitting progression. Atkins also said that Santander suffered a left-shoulder subluxation (partial separation) when he crashed into the outfield wall in early May in a game against the Los Angeles Angels. After being a first-time All-Star in 2024 in his final year with the Baltimore Orioles, Santander has been a big free-agent bust so far in 2025 in Toronto, slashing .179/.273/.304 with a .577 OPS, only six home runs, 18 RBI and 55 strikeouts in 209 plate appearances before his shoulder injury. It's good news that the 30-year-old Venezuelan is close to resuming baseball activities, but he won't be back until after the All-Star break as he looks to turn around his awful first half with the Jays.

Sun Jun 1508:27Anthony Santander Not Hitting Yet
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Anthony Santander (shoulder) has not been cleared to swing the bat yet, according to the team's manager John Schneider. Santander has been throwing the baseball, but hasn't progressed to hitting yet. The 30-year-old has been sidelined since late May due to left shoulder inflammation. He did receive a PRP injection in June, but it hasn't helped him too much. Once Santander has begun hitting, he'll likely need to go on a minor league rehab assignment. There is currently no timetable for his return to the field. He was struggling before the injury, so fantasy managers might need to make a decision soon.

Tue Jun 317:23Anthony Santander Receives PRP Injection
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder/designated hitter Anthony Santander (shoulder) received a platelet-rich plasma injection in his injured left shoulder and will take five to seven days off before throwing and ramping up, according to The Athletic's Mitch Bannon. Santander is currently on the 10-day injured list and probably won't be able to return when he's eligible if he's shut down for around a week. However, barring a setback when he resumes baseball activities, it's possible he could be back in Toronto before the end of June, even if he goes on a minor-league rehab assignment. Considering all the money the Jays gave the 30-year-old switch-hitter in free agency, they probably won't be rushing him back before he's ready. With Daulton Varsho also on the IL, Addison Barger, Nathan Lukes and Myles Straw should see more playing time in the outfield for Toronto.

Fri May 3016:02Blue Jays Place Anthony Santander on 10-Day Injured List
The Toronto Blue Jays placed outfielder Anthony Santander (shoulder) on the 10-day injured list on Friday and recalled outfielder Alan Roden from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move, according to the team. With Santander out, Myles Straw and Nathan Lukes are starting in the corner-outfield spots for Toronto for Friday's contest against the visiting Athletics. Santander has been a huge free-agent and fantasy bust so far in his first year in Toronto, hitting just .179/.273/.304 with a .577 OPS, six home runs, 18 RBI, 14 runs and 55 strikeouts in 209 plate appearances after a career year in 2024 in Baltimore in which he had a career-high 44 long balls and 102 RBI. The 30-year-old went hitless in 17 at-bats with seven strikeouts in five games before landing on the IL. In addition to a shoulder injury, he's also been battling a hip ailment. Straw, Lukes and Roden could all split playing time in Santander's absence.

Fri May 2323:16Anthony Santander Expected Back Saturday
Per manager John Schneider, Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Anthony Santander (hip) is expected to rejoin the team on Saturday for their road meeting with the Tampa Bay Rays. Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reported the news. Schneider also noted that he "liked Clase's ability to make contact in the 7th," when asked if Santander was an option off the bench on Friday, insinuating he may have been available if Schneider felt it was the right move. It's good news for the 30-year-old, who's dealt with an ailing hip for the last week or so. Still, though, he has some work to do to recover from his dreadful start to the year (.188/.270/.327). Hopefully, he's completely past his hip issue. He'll face off against right-handed hurler Shane Baz if all goes according to plan.

Fri May 2317:00Anthony Santander Remains Out on Friday
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder/designated hitter Anthony Santander (hip) remains out of action for Friday's contest against the division-rival Tampa Bay Rays. Santander will miss a second straight game on Friday due to a left-hip injury that he's been dealing with now for the last week. Although the 30-year-old's injury doesn't seem all that serious, we can't rule out an injured-list stint if it continues to bother him and keep him off the field the rest of the weekend. In addition to his hip injury, Santander hasn't lived up to his big free-agent deal and is slashing just .188/.266/.327 with a .594 OPS, six home runs, 18 RBI and 13 runs scored in his first 43 games for the Jays. George Springer is the DH and is batting cleanup on Friday against Rays right-hander Drew Rasmussen. Jonatan Clase is in left field and hitting eighth, while Nathan Lukes is in right field and batting ninth.

Thu May 2212:06Anthony Santander Out With Hip Injury on Thursday
Toronto Blue Jay outfielder/designated hitter Anthony Santander (hip) is absent from the lineup for Thursday's series finale against the visiting San Diego Padres at Rogers Centre as Toronto goes for the three-game sweep. Santander was pulled early from Wednesday's 14-0 blowout win over SD after aggravating a left-hip injury, so it's not a huge surprise the 30-year-old isn't playing a day later in a matinee game. It's unclear if the injury is serious enough to land him on the injured list, but perhaps Toronto will view it as a chance to get the struggling slugger an extended mental break after a tough start to his first year in Canada. Santander is hitting just .188/.266/.327 with six homers, 18 RBI and 13 runs scored. Outfielder Daulton Varsho is the DH and is in the three-hole, while Myles Straw patrols center field and hits eighth on Thursday against Padres right-hander Stephen Kolek.

Wed May 2121:41Anthony Santander Exits with Hip Inflammation
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Anthony Santander (hip) left Wednesday's game against the Padres in the seventh inning due to hip inflammation. Jonatan Clase pinch-hit for him with the bases loaded. This has been an ongoing issue for the slugger, as he recently sat out on Saturday with soreness in the same hip. There should be an update after the game, but there's a chance this will require a trip to the injured list if he wants to move past the injury completely.

Tue May 2016:09Anthony Santander Hitting Sixth on Tuesday Against Padres
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder/designated hitter Anthony Santander is serving as the DH for the Jays on Tuesday and will hit sixth in the batting order versus the visiting San Diego Padres and right-hander Dylan Cease in the series opener. Santander is slowly moving his way down Toronto's batting order after originally starting as their three-hole hitter for the first 39 games of the 2025 campaign. The 30-year-old slugger had a career year as a first-time All-Star in 2024 with Baltimore, clubbing 44 homers and driving in 102 runs, but he's currently slashing just .182/.264/.308 with five homers, 16 RBI and a 44:18 K:BB in his first 41 games with the Blue Jays. Tuesday's matchup isn't the best one for him to turn things around against Cease, although Santander has hit .313 with a .916 OPS, a homer and three RBI against Cease in 16 career at-bats against him.

Sat May 1712:58Anthony Santander Remains Sidelined on Saturday
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Anthony Santander (hip) remains out of the starting nine on Saturday when the Blue Jays continue a series against the Detroit Tigers. Arden Zwelling noted that the slugger is dealing with a sore left hip. On Friday, Santander was dealing with a sore left shoulder. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status leading up to Sunday's contest. As a result, this will open the DH spot for first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr., which opens first base for Ernie Clement. Through his first 39 games of the campaign, Santander has held a modest .187/.266/.316 slash line with just five doubles and five home runs. Under the hood, he has generated a low .283 xwOBA. The Blue Jays are worth considering in DFS facing Reese Olson, who enters this game with a 3.38 ERA.

Fri May 1618:59Anthony Santander Out on Friday
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder/designated hitter Anthony Santander will retreat to the bench for Friday's series opener versus the visiting Detroit Tigers at Rogers Centre. George Springer will serve as the DH and will hit cleanup, while Jonatan Clase will start in left field and bat ninth against Tigers right-hander Jack Flaherty. It's been a rough start to Santander's time with Toronto in 2025. The 30-year-old Venezuelan switch-hitter has hit .187 (29-for-155) with five home runs, 16 RBI, 12 runs scored, 17 walks and 41 strikeouts in 173 plate appearances after clubbing a career-high 44 homers and driving in 102 in 2024 with the Orioles. He went 1-for-12 with five strikeouts in his last three games and missed some time with a sore shoulder. Springer has swung the bat well this year but is hitless in 14 career at-bats against Flaherty. Clase has never faced Flaherty.

Tue May 1315:57Anthony Santander Returns Against Rays
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder/designated hitter Anthony Santander (shoulder) is serving as the DH and is hitting third for Toronto on Tuesday against the division-rival Tampa Bay Rays and right-hander Shane Baz at Rogers Centre. Santander miss the three-game sweep over the Seattle Mariners over the weekend with a shoulder injury that he suffered last Thursday. The 30-year-old veteran switch-hitter is back in action on Tuesday, though, and will be looking to get his season average up over .200. Fantasy managers probably aren't in a rush to get him back into their starting lineups, although he does bring a modest three-game hitting streak into Tuesday's action after going 5-for-14 with a homer, four RBI and a run scored in last week's series against the Los Angeles Angels. Santander is hitless in his six career at-bats against Baz.

Mon May 1213:29Anthony Santander Should Be Good To Return On Tuesday
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder/designated hitter Anthony Santander (shoulder) missed the three-game sweep of the Seattle Mariners over the weekend after his shoulder "felt cranky" after falling into the right-field seats against the Los Angeles Angels late last week. However, manager John Schneider said that Santander should be good for Tuesday's series opener against the division-rival Tampa Bay Rays. The 30-year-old was swinging the bat a bit better prior to his minor shoulder injury last Thursday, but fantasy managers are still waiting for more. The Venezuelan switch-hitting outfielder has so far been a disappointment in his first year in Toronto, slashing .196/.275/.336 with a .611 OPS, five home runs, 16 RBI and 12 runs scored in his 143 at-bats. Check back on Tuesday before throwing Santander back into your starting fantasy lineups.

Sun May 1114:13Anthony Santander Remains Out On Sunday
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Anthony Santander (shoulder) remains out of the starting nine on Sunday when the Blue Jays conclude their series against the Seattle Mariners. Santander was unable to start on Saturday as well. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor Santander's status leading up to their next game on Tuesday evening against the Tampa Bay Rays. Before his injury, the 30-year-old had begun to find his swing as he had held a strong .250/.333/.500 slash line with a double, three long balls, and eight RBI across his past 10 games. This afternoon, George Springer will shift to the DH spot with opens center field for Myles Straw. Jonatan Clase and Nathan Lukes will cover the corners. The Blue Jays are best to fade in DFS facing Seattle right-hander Bryce Miller.

Sat May 1021:11Anthony Santander Remains Out On Saturday
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Anthony Santander (shoulder) remains out of the starting lineup ahead of Saturday's game against the Seattle Mariners. Santander injured his shoulder during Thursday's game and as a result he'll miss his second straight game. It's worth noting that Santander could be available off the bench, which means his injury isn't too serious. Fantasy managers should consider Santander as day-to-day until further notice. George Springer will take over as the designated hitter and bat third against right-hander Logan Evans. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups ahead of first pitch.

Fri May 919:02Anthony Santander Not Playing Against Mariners
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder/designated hitter Anthony Santander is out of the lineup for Friday's series opener against the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park. George Springer is serving as the designated hitter and is batting cleanup, while Jonatan Clase is starting in left field and is batting ninth against Mariners right-hander Luis Castillo. Santander does have five home runs early on in his first season with the Blue Jays, but he's hitting under .200 with 36 strikeouts in 160 plate appearances after he was a first-time All-Star in 2024 in his final season with the Baltimore Orioles. The good news is Santander has swung the bat better so far in seven games in May, going 8-for-29 with a homer, double, four RBI, three runs scored, three walks and five strikeouts. Springer has hit .167 with a .417 OPS and one RBI in 12 career at-bats against Castillo, while Clase has never faced him.

Thu May 108:13Anthony Santander Launches Fourth Homer
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Anthony Santander went 1-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in Wednesday's 7-6 win over the Boston Red Sox. The switch-hitting veteran blasted his fourth long ball of the season off Red Sox pitcher Garrett Whitlock to tie the game 6-6 in the bottom of the seventh inning. Santander has never really been known for his average, but he's hitting a paltry .175 on the season. Over his last eight appearances, the 30-year-old is 2-for-31 (.064) with two home runs and an 11:4 K:BB ratio. He's walking more this season than last year, but punching out more, too, while mostly maintaining his quality of contact metrics. Not much has changed in his profile otherwise, so he'll likely turn a corner eventually. For what it's worth, Santander's average is a bit off statcast's .201 xBA.

Tue Apr 2218:14Anthony Santander Sitting On Tuesday Amidst Slump
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder/designated hitter Anthony Santander will start on the bench in Tuesday's contest against the hosting Houston Astros. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will serve as the DH and bat second, while Will Wagner will draw into the lineup at first base and hit seventh against Astros right-hander Ronel Blanco. Tuesday will be Santander's first game off of the season and will give him a much-needed break after he's gone 18-for-92 (.196) with two home runs, eight RBI, seven runs scored and 23 strikeouts in 102 plate appearances over his 23 games played. In the last four games, he has just one hit in 15 at-bats. Fantasy managers will be hoping the day off can get the Venezuelan slugger going at the plate. Guerrero is a must-start in fantasy each and every day, but he has only two hits in 10 career at-bats against Blanco.

Tue Apr 2209:58Anthony Santander Suffering Through Slow Start To The Season
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Anthony Santander went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in the team's shutout loss to the Astros on Monday night. The Blue Jays managed just two hits against Hunter Brown and the Astros, but it's a continuation of a rough trend for Santander, who is hitting just .196 this season with a pair of home runs and a .257 wOBA. The Blue Jays gave Santander a big five-year deal in free agency this past offseason, but the 30-year-old switch-hitter has been a big disappointment so far. His hard-hit rate has dropped from 41.4% to 35.7% and his barrel rate from 11.7% to only 4.3% this year, according to Statcast. Santander has gotten off to slow starts in the past in his career and been able to turn things around, so there's still hope he'll be a valuable fantasy asset. He's still a hold in most standard leagues, but you may have to relegate him to the bench until he finds a rhythm.

Wed Feb 2612:34Anthony Santander Away Due To Visa Issues
MLB.com's Keegan Matheson reports that Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Anthony Santander has been away from camp while sorting out visa issues. However, Santander will be back in Dunedin on Wednesday night and is expected to play in a Grapefruit League game on Friday, according to manager John Schneider. The Blue Jays' offseason acquisition initially reported to camp but then had to leave to take care of the visa issues. It should be all sorted out now, though. The 30-year-old adds plenty of pop to the heart of Toronto's batting order for the 2025 season after inking a five-year, $92.5 million deal in free agency in the offseason. The switch-hitter clubbed a career-high 44 home runs in his final season in Baltimore in 2024 and could be the Jays' primary designated hitter in his first season in Canada. Although some regression wouldn't be a surprise, Santander is a pretty good bet for 30-plus homers if he stays healthy.
