Sun Jun 811:02Danny Coulombe Returns From Injured List
The Minnesota Twins have activated left-handed pitcher Danny Coulombe (forearm) from the 15-day injured list before Sunday's contest against the Toronto Blue Jays. In a corresponding move, the Twins placed right-handed pitcher Zebby Matthews (shoulder) on the 15-day IL. Coulombe has been held out of action since May 18. Before the injury, the southpaw was enjoying an impressive start to the campaign, tossing 16 2/3 shutout innings of relief. The left-hander has struck out 19 batters and served up walks at a stellar 3.3% rate. Under the hood, he has generated an elite 1.68 xERA with a .187 xBA. During the opening months of the campaign, Coulombe tallied two holds and two saves operating as a high-leverage option. While Jhoan Duran and Griffin Jax will continue to see most of the high-leverage situations, Coulombe should see a handful of opportunities to tally holds going forward.

Sun May 1811:42Danny Coulombe Placed on 15-Day Injured List
The Minnesota Twins have placed left-handed pitcher Danny Coulombe (forearm) on the 15-day injured list with a forearm strain. The 35-year-old has not appeared in a game since Wednesday. Through his first 16 2/3 innings of work this season, the left-hander has been one of the most effective relief pitchers in the sport. He has not allowed a run and posted a stellar 0.60 WHIP. He has struck out 19 batters and served up walks at an impressive 3.3% rate. Under the hood, he has generated a 1.69 xERA (100th percentile) and a .187 xBA (95th percentile). He has tallied two holds and two saves, pitching primarily in the seventh and eighth innings. While he is sidelined, fantasy managers should expect Jhoan Duran to serve as the primary closer, with Griffin Jax and Cole Sands being the primary setup options.

Tue Feb 414:03Danny Coulombe, Twins Agree To One-Year Deal
Free-agent left-hander Danny Coulombe agreed to a one-year, $3 million deal on Tuesday with the Minnesota Twins, according to a source. The deal also includes incentives. Despite missing a good chunk of the 2024 campaign with the Baltimore Orioles due to bone chips that required surgery, Coulombe had a strong 2.12 ERA (2.83 FIP), a 0.67 WHIP, one save, 32 strikeouts and only five walks in 29 2/3 relief innings for the O's last season. In his two years in Baltimore, the 35-year-old veteran southpaw reliever held a sharp 2.56 ERA (2.83 FIP), a 0.95 WHIP, three saves and a 90:17 K:BB in 81 frames. Coulombe will bring a lefty presence as a late-inning setup man to a strong bullpen that already includes Griffin Jax, Cole Sands and Brock Stewart in front of lights-out closer Jhoan Duran.

Fri Jan 3108:49Danny Coulombe Has Potential Suitors
According to Robert Murray of FanSided.com, left-handed relief pitcher Danny Coulombe is drawing interest on the market. Murray noted that multiple teams were interested in left-hander Taylor Rogers before he was traded to Cincinnati. As a result, Coulombe could be viewed as one of the top southpaws on the market. Last season with Baltimore, Coulombe posted a strong 2.12 ERA with a 0.67 WHIP across 29 2/3 innings. He struck out 32 batters and served up just five free passes. In 2023, Coulombe posted a similar 2.81 ERA and a 1.11 WHP across 51 1/3 frames with the Orioles. The southpaw consistently saw time as a high-leverage option in the Baltimore bullpen over the past two seasons. He would likely find a role as a setup man in 2025.

Tue Apr 30 202400:16Danny Coulombe Earns First Save Of Season Monday
Baltimore Orioles relief pitcher Danny Coulombe picked up his first save of the season in Monday's 2-0 win over the Yankees. Coulombe entered the game to pitch the top of the ninth inning up by two and turned in a 1-2-3 outing with no strikeouts. Closer Craig Kimbrel (back) is currently day-to-day with back tightness, so Coulombe was called upon to close things out. The 34-year-old has pitched well this season with a 3.18 ERA, an 11.12 K/9 rate, and a 1.59 BB/9 rate in 11 1/3 IP. His fantasy value will remain limited without seeing routine high-leverage situations, but he could provide value in saves-plus-holds leagues if he ends up getting interim save opportunities.

Fri Aug 25 202308:24Danny Coulombe Back With The Orioles
Baltimore Orioles left-hander Danny Coulombe was activated from the injured list on Thursday after missing a few weeks of action with left biceps tendinitis. The club optioned lefty Nick Vespi in a corresponding move. That's good news for the Orioles, as the 33-year-old has been dominant, pitching to a 2.77 ERA and 1.10 WHIP with 48 punchouts across 39 innings. Coulombe only has one save on the season, but he's been a regular in late innings, collecting 19 holds, making him a decent option in hold formats.

Fri Dec 30 202213:01Twins Re-Sign Danny Coulombe
The Minnesota Twins re-signed left-handed reliever Danny Coulombe to a minor-league deal on Friday that includes an invitation to spring training next year. Coulombe became a free agent in October when he refused an outright assignment to the minor leagues, but he'll return to Minnesota for the 2023 campaign. The 33-year-old southpaw had a lost season in 2022, undergoing surgery to fix the labrum in his left hip during the summer, so he ended up making just 10 relief appearances in the first half of the season. In his 12 1/3 innings, he allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits while walking nine and striking out nine. Over eight seasons in the big leagues, Coulombe has a 3.92 ERA (4.02 FIP), a 1.31 WHIP, 80 walks and 179 strikeouts in 192 2/3 innings over 194 appearances (one start).

Fri May 27 202214:34Danny Coulombe Activated From Injured List
The Minnesota Twins activated relief pitcher Danny Coulombe (hip) from the 15-day injured list on Friday and placed outfielder Gilberto Celestino on the COVID-19 injured list in a corresponding move. Coulombe had been sidelined with a left hip impingement, but he'll return to Minnesota's bullpen this weekend. The 32-year-old southpaw will return to a pristine 0.75 ERA, a 1.00 WHIP, seven walks and nine strikeouts in 12 relief innings over nine appearances. Celestino has been solid as a reserve outfielder for the Twins, as he's hitting .324 (24-for-74) with no homers, four RBI and 10 runs scored in 31 games played. It's unclear when he'll be able to rejoin the team.
